Hello Harley, I saw this thread last night, and your question is one I really wanted to address. The short answer is that no, that absolutely was not God.
OK, so how can you be sure? Jesus Christ is not standing there glaring at you demanding you get it right
or else. That is a common misunderstanding that messes with Christians and can mess with some of us even when we think we're getting good at this!
I have found that all too often it is when I am drifting off to sleep like you were when this happened, I sometimes get the weirdest thoughts. This was really bad during the first few years I was starting out as a Christian, and it used to really bother me because I didn't want to be like that!
First, the Lord would never threaten you like that just because you are not getting everything right. The Bible is really comforting on this when James, and as far as we know, this James was Jesus own brother who wrote: "We all stumble in many ways..." (James 3:2) If Jesus Christ was holding out for perfection, I promise you I would not be sitting here typing this and pretty much nobody else would be singing His praises either! So what do you do when something like this happens? You need truth to defeat the lie. As Christians, we depend on the Bible to be the only truth about God, Jesus Christ and salvation that we dare trust, so we depend on the statement that God is love and if God loves us He is not going to harm us for making mistakes. What He is going to do and what He does do is point out the mistake and work with you as long as it takes until you understand what the problem is and how to get past that point. When you hear about walking with the Lord and Footsteps In The Sand and things like that, in practice, this is what it means. You have a package of serious hurts, misunderstandings and mistakes that was keeping you from understanding the truth about God and the truth about yourself, and it takes time, prayer and a new way of thinking and understanding to find the kind of peace Christianity promised and celebrates.
So if something like that happens again, ask Jesus to make it stop, to speak the truth over you in love and let you rest. I hope this works the first time, and I will pray for you, but sometimes, especially at first, you may not get the instant result you are hoping for. That is because the devil wants you to think it is hopeless so he can keep tormenting you (he's a real jerk that way). Don't believe the devil, all he's got is lies so he's not worth the energy to listen to.
I hope this helps Harley. Peace to you.
