I think some of you have heard of this religion. I'm a born-again, or so my mom says, and because I go to a born-again church. But the problem is, my boyfriend is an Iglesia ni Cristo.

My mom doesn't want him. My mom hates that religion. Even though she won't say it directly, I can feel it. And it hurts me. It makes me sad. My mom judges the INC that they're like a cult, but clearly, INC bases their beliefs and teachings solely from the Bible. It really hurts me that my mom judges them knowing that she is a BORN-AGAIN and that she should not judge whatever a person's religion is. She judges so fast, she condemns, and such.

I think it just "ungodly" for my mom to mouth such hurting words against Iglesia ni Cristo. If she really is practicing Christianity, I think she should be able to respect and love the people around her.

What should I do? For now, I'm convincing my mom to like my boyfriend, I'm not telling her to convert or something, as for myself, I don't know if I should convert next year (to INC) i'm just confused right now. What should I do with my mom? What should I do? :( Thank you and God bless everyone.

It is not ungodly to detest falsehood and there is no reason to respect false religions. They are not Christians so your mothers condemnation of this religion is warranted and justified. The people can be shown respect because they are people but their beliefs deserve no respect. If you want to be with him then you should try to get him to convert because Christians are not suppose to have relationships like this with unbelievers.

I'm so confused right now. I'm gonna try to bring my boyfriend to our church and hopefully he'll like there. I am also doubting of their religion but who am I to judge, or I just don't know what their religion really is.

I'm kinda sure as well that he'll also not convert to born again because he's a firm believer of their religion. Breaks my heart...

And also, he told me that it was wrong on how we born agains worship and praise God. He said that why would we have a band? Why were we jumping and dancing and shouting the love of God when it should be solemn, like in INC?? He said that we are facing the Lord and that we should be formal and all that. He has a point, but is he correct?

The Nicene Creed has defined the beliefs that are essential to Christianity for over a thousands years and it is accepted by the Catholic, Orthodox and the majority of Protestant churches but INC rejects this creed. They believe that the early Church fell into apostasy so there were not any real Christians for at least 1600 years until their false religion was created. Jesus promised that the gates of Hell would not prevail against his Church but if there were no real Christians for at least 1600 years, then it seems like this promise was not fulfilled.

I prefer traditional solemn worship but this is just nitpicking at an issue. In the Catholic church, there are different rites which worship in different ways but we are united by our beliefs. I don't think the specific way you choose to worship matters much as long as you are focused on God.

We come across as a cult because we are small, stick to ourselves, and a bit off.

This is true, but also false. We agree with everything in the Nicene Creed, however, we do not formally accept or recognize any creeds. I've had several conversations with a Catholic friend of mine who finds the idea that I don't see any denomination as "out of communion" with me a bit unfathomable. We do not believe that the early church fell into apostasy, but that there really is no church that is truly the same church as the early church, but simply the remnants of it. Apostolic succession may still exist, but no church today = first century church.

How are you part of this Church if you believe that? There must be some error in communication between us so I will post a link to what I am referencing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iglesia_ni_Cristo

I'm guessing that you thought I was talking about some other Church because if you were part of this Church, you would reject the belief that Jesus is God. If this is the case then nothing I said would apply to you.
