Jesus said in Matthew 5:
Jesus used powerful hyperbole to point out the seriousness of sin. We need to deal with sin drastically. We need to cut sins out of our lives.
That's shocking and graphic language. Jesus meant it seriously but not literally. Even if you literally gouge out your eye, there is no guarantee that you won't sin.29 If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away.
Losing an eye is better than losing your eternal life. That's certainly and literally true. Still, there is no need to gouge out your eye.It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
Jesus used powerful hyperbole to point out the seriousness of sin. We need to deal with sin drastically. We need to cut sins out of our lives.
