i will be leading a Bible study for first year women on campus. as far as i know, it's rather small, but i want everyone to feel comfortable and just break through the initial tension.

i know secular ice breakers that i used at an art camp with the counsellors, but they won't be appropriate for this.

any suggestions?

Ask them what is their favorite book of the Bible and why? (You can sometimes learn where they are at spiritually by questions)
If they had to choose a female Bible character to be like/or who they think they are most like.... who would it be and why?
What is their favorite Bible character and why?
What is their favorite Bible verse ?
What major biggie besides salvation has God shown them through His Word?
Do they think that the Bible is relevant for today times and why?
What other Bible courses/classes/studies have they taking and how it has impact their lives.

Hope this helps

God Bless You!!

My first Bible study at college, I was a freshman. The leader passed around a roll of toilet paper and asked everyone to tear off as much as they would like. She didn't tell us why. When everyone had gotten their chosen amount of TP, she told us to count the number of squares we had...whatever the number was, we had to tell that many "strange" facts about ourselves. It was a lot of fun, and mostly everyone was telling "funny" types of things. It was a great icebreaker for us!

Another ice breaker idea is this summer I took a class and the leaders handed out plain m&m's she said to take as many as you like but don't eat them until she said too.
Well different ppl took different amounts and after everyone got some. The leader then said for every M&M you took tell something about yourself.
Well some ppl was glad they only took a couple, some ppl had to do a lot of talking.
It was a lot of fun and we learned about each other.

Another fun one with M&Ms:

Give everyone a few to start, maybe 5. Then each person says a thing that they've *never* done. Everyone who's done that thing has to give the person an M&M.

(I used to rack up on this, because I never graduated from kindergarten and never attended the fourth grade :D)

once everyone knows each other, (or even when they don't) have everyone rename each other & give reasons for why jill has been renamed jaime (because i thought jill looks like my friend jaime or whatever). sometimes the names are about their peronality--meghan renamed grace because she isn't graceful, etc.
also, favorite clothing & why; "never have i ever"
everyone has a can of diet coke or whatever, and go around the circle. person #1 says, never have i ever ___ (gone to canada for instance) and everyone who has been to canada takes a sip. then person #2 says never have i ever ____ (seen My Best Friend's Wedding)...hope that helps

Have a bag of jumbo marshmellows and tell each person to take as many as they want. Then say they have to stuff them all in their mouths and say 5 things about themselves! It's funny if they took alot :).

They might choke though :(.

LOL My favourite idea in this thread. Do this one!
