I've read elsewhere that "NIKA" means "conquers", but it is basically the same.

A small aside. The city I live in is called Thessaloniki which is named after the daughter of King Philip (father of Alexander the Great) who was in turn given the name in commemoration over King Philip's victory over Thessaly. Hence Thessalo-niki. The manufacturer of running shoes, NIKE, is also a transliteration of the Greek word, the Greek letter "η - eeta" usually become "e" in English words.

John.
