Before I started reading the Douay Rheims I was reading the King James. This is not a discussion about how difficult/easy the KJV is, what I am trying to say is that I'm someone who really loves the style of the KJV and it has been my favorite translation for many years. I had to force myself to read other translations and I've always felt a fire for God while reading it. But since it's a Protestant Bible I want to focus my attention on a Catholic Bible. I have an RSV-CE already, so it's not like I don't have an "easier" to read version, but I thought that since the Douay Rheims version is very similar in style to the KJV, I would feel just as engaged in the reading as I did with the latter, but I don't quite feel the same connection. I wish I knew why this was happening. I don't find it more difficult than the KJV, so it's not that. I do hope that this problem (it's not a major problem) goes away. I still think it's an awesome looking translation and I will keep reading it - somehow I feel "smarter" reading it lol.
p.s someone may suggest I get the Deuterocanonical books in the KJV. That's not a bad idea, but I also heard that there's a Protestant bias in the KJV translation anyway (e.g. Mary being highly favored instead of full of grace).
p.s. part 2 - I'm worried that this looks like a discouraging thread, I'm actually trying to STAY encouraged lol.
