So we are homeschooling our daughter for Kindergarten. We have been going to a homeschool co op for preschool and it is working well. She has a large circle of friends and activities and learns very much as a kinetic learner. We live in a college town and there is a very large homeschooling population and the local school district is actually very supportive.

So any advice from any homeschooling vets?

Thanks. My wife and I are pretty excited. PA can be a bit of a difficult state for it but our school district is really helpful. There are lots of homeschool parents and kids in our area so there is a good working relationship with the district. And from my understanding that is a very good thing.

While not a homeschool vet, I just wanted to say that I admire you for doing it.

More than likely, our daughter will be going to public school since we are not able to homeschool her. Not all families are cut out to homeschool their children, and we're one of those families.

Hi there David. Good to see you.

I come from a society that does not view HS'ing very positively so I am not in a place to give advice.

But I know how dedicated you are to your family and am sure you and your wife will do a fine job...:)

Thank you very much. Yeah it is interesting to see the view of homeschooling around the world.

For me, having a background in education, I see how she learns and it is not how she would be taught. She is already, just on her own initiative finishing first grade textbooks and doing her own experiments and such. So we decided let's take it year by year. We know how she learns and learns best. She has activities and friends so we are happy on that end. So let's see where this goes. After praying it feels like it is the best decision for her.

It is not unusual for me to read through something with her and then she wants to go outside or into the kitchen and immediately practice or experiment. The day she deduced that heat lifts things when she saw her bubbles rise over the heater launched a week of experiments with things and showing her hot air balloons. And we were able to follow what she was interested in while she was really wanting to know it. That maximized the amount she retained.

So we are going to follow this course year by year discerning along the way.

I would work with an accredited homeschool program--for example I use Seton Homeschool--its a catholic based program, I am sure there are also non-Catholic ones as well but with that you receive online help, the texts, and they grade the final papers, while the parents grade weekly.

They supply lesson plans as well----its amazing and saves you a lot of work and its roughly around 500 or so dollars.

I actually found out today that Florida does have a tuition free homeschooling program using virtual classrooms.

I mentioned to my wife, but her reply is that she would like her breaks too, so I guess I am going to take that as school is a chance to have a break from our daughter.

Our Lady of Victory is another excellent accredited Home-Education programme; I've had Catholic home-educating families that I am friends with recommend it. :)
