Hey everyone.

Ive googled it, with no luck, so does anyone know if Hindu's are allowed to eat bacon or not?

I know that theyre not allowed to eat Beef, because cows are holy. I always find it hilarious that Hindu's would rather worship a cow than the man who is clearly the son of God!

Anyways, my hindu dad isnt speaking to me again, so the next few weeks will be a great time for me - because he caught me eating bacon. Im sure its a control thing, because I cant find any belief in which a hindu shouldnt eat bacon.

Appreciate the replies in advance, God Bless, metal.

Doesn't it depend on which particular Hindu god they worship? Millions of gods to pick from...probably one of them is a pig, yes?

But I think there is an emphasis on clean living, purifying your body and mind, etc. Maybe that would be a reason they wouldn't eat bacon? Don't really know.

Love, Heather

**First off, I wish to say that I'm not trying to convert folks to Hinduism or anything like that. I only wish to dispel some incorrect beliefs about what Hindus believe and not believe**

Hindus do not worship cows! In addition, Hinduism has only one deity. Don't believe everything you read in a standard western textbook or from most missionaries about other faiths; they usually haven't a clue.

Cows are often revered, but they are not worshipped. And even this is only done in some types of Hinduism, as "Hinduism" is more like a blanket term than an actual "religion." The Hindu religion is "Sanatana Dharma," sometimes translated from the Sanskrit as "Eternal Religion" ("Dharma" means many things). I wouldn't be surprised in fact if some Hindu schools of thought allowed the consumption of beef; not surprised at all.

Vegetarianism is considered only a requirement of the Brahmin caste (the priestly caste); lower casts may eat meat, although it is suggested that they don't eat flesh out of piety. This is why vegetarianism is so popular among Hindus, although it isn't a requirement.

Fasting is not always a requirement in all forms of Hinduism, although it is suggested in such schools of Hindu thought as a form of piety.

Eating bacon, unless a Hindu is a brahmin, is not sinful in perhaps most Hindu schools of thought. Your dad is either a brahmin, of a school that denounces the consumption of pork, or is (not offense) misinformed.

Someone should alert the Jeopardy clue team as this was one of the answers last nights show, the three main gods of hinduism, they named two and the third was the question. Top the OP, I know that you should know what your father believes but what you descibed when taking out the Hinduism part sounds to me like he is Muslim, not Hindu. Muslims will eat beef, but not any part of pig.

You said he caught you eating bacon, how did he know it was pig bacon? There is turkey bacon and even soy bacon, not very tasty, but it's out there.
