Harvard University is suing the Trump administration over its freeze on grants to the Ivy League schools as part of what the government says is an effort to eliminate antisemitism and diversity, equity, and inclusion policies on college campuses.

In a letter to the campus community published Monday, Harvard President Alan Garber announced that the school filed a lawsuit over the funding freeze, putting $2.2 billion in multi-year grants and $60 million in multi-year contracts on hold.

The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts, asks a federal judge to declare the funding freezes unlawful and deem demands outlined in two separate letters to the university as conditions for maintaining federal funding unconstitutional.

Garber acknowledged that the Massachusetts campus has a “real problem” with antisemitism amid a war between Israel and Hamas that began after the group attacked Israel in October 2023.

I wonder why we never hear about this adminstration chastizing the alt-right, or the Proud Boys" for their antisemitism.

Is it because it's not actually about anti-semitism at all?

I mean the ADL itself says it's "overreach".
Anti-Defamation League calls Trump administration Harvard reprimand an 'overreach'

“What we’ve seen over many years is growing anti-Zionist sentiment on many college campuses, which often becomes a kind of anti-Israelism,” said Dov Waxman, professor of Israel studies and director of the Y&S Nazarian Center for Israel Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. “In other words, it’s not just a principled demand for equal rights for Palestinians. It’s not just an opposition to Israel as a Jewish state … but an aversion to anything to do with Israel or anybody associated with Israel.”
Defining and confronting campus antisemitism — Harvard Gazette
Ok.....so Antizionism and not antisemitism.

I wonder if these folks also recognize the role that the choices the government of Israel has in the "opposition to Israel"?

The second article discusses the "antizionism - antisemitism" comparison. Frankly, I am not really too concerned as to how htose two groups define or do(n't) differentiate between the two.
The nazis were PROZionism and anti-semitism....so clearly these are not interchangeable terms.

I would posit that conflating the two is meant to be a manipulation of ethics to demonize very fair complaints about the actions of the government of Israel.
And I think a lot of people would agree with that.

Harvard U will lose as the president has the authority to provide grants to institutions. The institutions can not
force the president to give them money.

He is withholding funding....why? Because he wants to put limits on Free Speech.

Will Harvard be successful? I dunno. But withholding money to limit Free Speech seems like it could be problematic. Especially when its the government who does it.

Yet again. When the government actually wants to limit Free Speech, the right is silent. And the First Ammendment was meant to put restrictions on Government.

And when businesses, NOT subject to the First Ammendment, limit free speech, the right won't shut up.

I didn't know the President could just trample on First Ammendment Rights like that. Some people want a despot I guess.

He's opposing antisemitism and during the Biden term, Harvard's president had to resign for her own antisemitic statements. The university didn't do anything when the pro-Palestinian/Hamas protesters attacked Jewish students and professors and kept them from attending classes.

Freedom of speech doesn't include oppressing others as the pro-Palestinian/Hamas students were doing.
