There are 2 ideas of God's "elect" people; all Christians whom are the body of Christ (1 Pet 2:9), and then certain Christians which God has predestined to be His disciples. The belief of the 2nd view is that, by His foreknowledge, God selects certain people to follow His calling rather than others (taken for example would be the 12 apostles, or the various prophets). This view seems to contradict scripture, that clearly states we are all united in the body of Christ, and that He does not favor one of us over the other, but rather justifies us by our faith. Could certain people be "elected" by Him for discipleship rather than others (such as future pastors), or are we all on the same page and all grouped together within Christ? It is true that people in the olden days such as prophets and apostles were specifically appointed, but can that still happen today? It is true that some people have different callings by Christ, but why don't all Christians follow His call and go out to spread His message?
