Psalm 29:2
Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
Glory to His name: Yahweh, the LORD, the eternal and self existent One, the Creator of all things, who upholds all things by the word of his power. HalleluYah!
Glory means dignity, honor, majesty, reverence, reputation, and can also mean a shining brightness, as Jesus transfigured. We are told "give glory to God" (Luke 17:18), He is the brightness of God's glory, (Hebrews 1:3) and Jesus prayed unto the Father, "the glory which thou gavest me, I have given them, that they may be one even as we are one." (John 17:22)
Oh, how the glory of God is lost on many who profess to be Christians today! Ichabod is their way, for the glory has departed; perhaps the glory never was in their lives to begin with because they were not truly His.
"To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, and eternal life.
But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile... " (Romans 2:7-10)
So how do we give the LORD the glory due unto his name? The next part of the verse tells us: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness, and this is by holy living, well doing, working good and not evil, for the scripture says , as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation, because it is written, Be ye holy, for I am holy, and, without holiness no man shall see the Lord, and again, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God (1 Peter 1:15-16, Hebrews 12:14, 2 Corinthians 7:1)
Glory and holiness go hand in hand. No unholy thing can enter God's glory. Let God's glory come unto you, for Jesus said He gave the Father's glory to the disciples, and we are to give that glory back to God in both praises, and by our life, living a lifestyle that gives glory to God, the glory due unto His name.
Oh, "fear God, and give glory to him, for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. " (Revelation 14:7)
"God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ." (2 Thessalonians 2:13-14)
"But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever."
(2 Peter 3:18)
"Now unto the king eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever, amen" (1 Timothy 1:17)
AMEN!
