German election results explained in graphics – DW – 02/24/2025
Mainstream conservatives led by Friedrich Merz have won Germany's 2025 election. Here's a look in charts at the wins and losses, seats in parliament, possible coalition outcomes and voter demographics.

The German elections have been held now and the preliminary results are in.
With vote counting finished, preliminary results show the conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) led by chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz and its sister Christian Social Union (CSU) won the election.
CDU/CSU finished with slightly over 28% of the vote, while AfD, supported by Elon Musk, had around 20% of the vote. The other parties have ruled out any sort of cooperation with AfD. The article listed contains breakdown of voting based on location, age, gender and education and it's quite an interesting read in my opinion.
Merz, whose party won, talked about the need for greater European cooperation and also had some choice words about Musk and the current USA administration on Sunday.
"I have absolutely no illusions about what is happening from America," Merz said during a televised debate on Sunday night. "Just look at the recent interventions in the German election campaign by Mr. Elon Musk — that is a unique event. The interventions from Washington were no less dramatic and drastic and ultimately outrageous than the interventions we have seen from Moscow. We are under such massive pressure from two sides that my absolute priority now really is to create unity in Europe."
