The reason they are still beloved is that God’s gifts and calling are never removed. God doesn't take back His gifts. When He has made an unconditional promise, He never goes back on it. He called Israel to be His chosen people (Isa. 48:12), separate from the rest of the nations. Nothing can change His purposes.
God is mindful of the covenant promise He gave to the fathers, and He will fulfill it.

repentence = ametamelētos
am-et-am-el'-ay-tos
From G1 (as a negative particle) and a presumed derivative of G3338; irrevocable:

In otherwords it's a derivative of the word irrevocable but has been translated into modern english as 'without repentence' probably because there wasn't a word in the english language that exactly matched it.

"For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance." - KJV

"for God's gifts and his call are irrevocable." - NIV

I take this two ways.

In the KJV, I take it to mean that God is never sorry of His calling of you, or givin you a gift, even if you blow it, or walk away from it.

In the NIV, He will never take back His calling on your life, or of any gift He has bestowed upon you.

So, if you combine the two version, you get the impression that God will never be sorry, or take back what He has given us, even when we mess up, from time to time.

This verse needs to be taken in the context within which it was written. As another poster mentioned . . . the verse has to do with the nation of Israel.
God made a promise to them that He intends to keep . . . why? because God's promise is based on HIS FAITHFULLNESS AND NOT THEIR DISOBEDIENCE.

The modern day lesson . . . God's grace is HUGE . . . IMMENSE. There is nothing that we can do, short of rejecting Christ and His work on the cross, that can nullify the fact of God's pervasive grace in our lives.

BBE - Because God's selection and his mercies may not be changed.
CEV - God doesn't take back the gifts he has given or forget about the people he has chosen.
ESV - For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
GNB - For God does not change his mind about whom he chooses and blesses.

Here is the deal. What God has chosen to place His name with, those who He has blessed in the past, still have a destiny in Him. Remember, Romans 11 speaks of how natural Israel had been cut off from the blessings of God, not by God, but because of their unbelief. This does not mean that God was through with them. They still have space to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, and be replaced into the tree of blessings, just as we are now.
God never just washes His hands of those who have His name. We walk from Him, by choice. He never walks away from us. This verse speaks of the limitless grace and mercy of God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Maybe I am misreading a couple of the comments if so I appologize, however, I fear that a possible messgae being sent is once saved always saved. This is not so, hence the scripture that says let not another man steal your crown.

I do agree with the statement that you can walk away from your blessings because the word of God says he will never leave you nor forsake you. When we find that God is no longer around us, it is with in us to seek where we left him. It is in us to decide how we get back to him. The distance is usually around 24". The distance between our knees and the floor.

Jesus will withhold blessings from those that are not following him. Look at Isreal, 40 years in the wilderness. Do to thier failure to trust and believe, and serve him. He is no respector of person. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. If he did it then he can do it now.

Ok I about went out there preaching. I thin kI gave my thought on it. God Bless

Well historically in context Mathetes is right in his interpretation. If you use the four fold sense of scriptures however you can make it personal. Biblical literalist won't like that but that is the way the early church interpreted scriptures so I will side with them. And say that it can mean that God will not take away his gifts and his calling.

The Bible says in Romans 11:29, For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. What does this mean?
I believe that believers and non believers have gifts from God ie : singing , mediums etc .. But some people give praise to themselves or satan and christians rightly gives all praise to God..... Ours should be more powerful then those using it for the other side... sadly it is not always true...But it should not sure if that is down to slothfullness ( i am talking about myself here ) We ned the real in a powerful way to lead and show non christians to God ... They see clairvoyants and that working for the other side with powerful gifts... Shame on me.. i say
