Hello,

Where do followers of mainstream Christianity go when they die? Heaven or hell? The Bible seems to say both.

Heaven. Because:

Ephesians 2:8, ''For by grace are you saved through faith...''

Matthew 5:19. ''Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven...''

Hell. Because:

Matthew 7:21-23, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ ''And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’'

Romans 2:13, ''for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified.''

2 Peter 3:16-17, ''as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness''.

So, where do they end up? Heaven or hell?

Thanks

HARK!

MOD HAT ON

From the Statement of Purpose of this forum:

We believe:
  • First and foremost that Yeshua is the promised Messiah to Israel and to the nations.
  • Messianic Judaism is a sect of Judaism that is the fulfillment of the Jewish Scriptures.
  • The books of the Bible (Genesis to Revelation) are ordained by G-d to be His word to us.
  • Messianic Jews and Messianic Gentiles believe the Torah of Moses is the same that Yeshua kept, elucidated, and taught.
  • Yeshua instructed us to ‘Follow Me’, therefore we leave it to each individual to practice Torah (halacha) in a way that he/she believes Yeshua did.
  • Messianic Jews and Messianic Gentiles are equal in Messiah on this forum and are permitted to observe Torah without condemnation.
  • MJs and MGs keep Torah for the love of G-d and to practice sanctified living, not for salvation.

Christians who don't keep the Torah
Nobody keeps the Torah perfectly- that's why we need Jesus. But everyone who has the indwelling of the Holy Spirit should be convicted of their sin and move towards holiness.

Matthew 5:19. ''Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven...'' (not in "hell")

Deu. 28:13-14
And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:
And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

In history, debates about who is the "head" and who is the "tail" have caused a lot of harm. In my personal understanding, it is good to follow God's commandments without worrying about how high one's position is in the kingdom of heaven. The sovereignty of elevation and descent lies with God. Jewish etiquette requires more responsibility rather than a greater sense of superiority.
