  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Not sure if anyone talked about this in another thread, but I really really want to see this movie. Anyone else?
I guess the ones who made "Facing the Giants" did this one. It's about marriage, but the clips I've heard on the radio sound good. http://www.fireproofthemovie.com/

Also this morning I was listening to "slow fade" by casting crowns. It's supposed to be part of the soundtrack. There's so much weight to all the words in the song and reminds me of the warfare that we can face daily. Although we're Christian we're all vulnerable to the stuff in the world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-8SYA6rfbs

If you don't check out the movie, at least give this song a listen. Maybe I'm weak but I cried when I watched the video.

My church is going to see it. I'm not interested. It's way too predictable, another "Christian movie trying to look like a big Hollywood smash". No thanks. It's obvious what the storyline will be: firefighter has rocky marriage, firefighter has faith/life crisis and almost dies in a fire, firefighter discovers "what really matters" and wife is soooo grateful he's alive, happy fuzzy ending.

yeah, i sort of agree. it's like let's all go and pretend this is the best movie ever. It probably has a good message, but i don't have to go see kirk cameron's bad acting to know that you stick with your partner and honor your commitments in marriage.

I'm going to see it tonight with my mom and my boyfriend. I think it's cool that the truth is getting out there in the theaters, to be honest. A lot of Christians complain about the typical stuff Hollywood puts out but then they also complain when a movie with Christian values comes to the theaters. I don't quite get that.

My mom saw a screening of it a couple of months ago and said the emphasis on working hard to build a strong marriage is really powerful. So I'm curious to see what it will be like. Personally, I'm just glad to think about seeing something that encourages the sanctity of marriage and the importance of faithfulness in a committed relationship. I've seen way too much stuff in the movies/TV that makes light of that commitment.

So, hopefully it is good. I'll find out tonight, I guess. :)

i know, i'm a horrible person. I think i'm just in a bad place about stuff, so i don't think i could handle going to see it with a bunch of girls- which is who i would be going to go see it with tonight. Like i said i'll probably see it later on DVD, i just don't like feeling like if i don't support it on opening night i'm a failure as a Christian ( not that i'm saying anyone here is doing that- my sunday school class had this disscussion and it was just weird to me, like we all have to be foaming at the mouth in excitement about this movie or we have to turn in our good Christian card. My church is connected to the church that made "Facing the Giants" and this movie so it sometimes feels like someone is putting a checkmark by your name if you do the right things. Which makes me feel like rebeling. I don't think NOT going to see this movie, means I don't believe in the sanctity of marriage or the importance of commitment and faithfulness. eh, I don't think i explained that very well, but yeah i just thought i'd share. People from the group have been really sort of rude to me since i'm not going tonight and i just think that's sort of stupid. I don't know how long it's going to be in theaters, but given another chance with different circumstances and people i might go.

i might see it if it came to theatres here though Christian movies typically aren't the greatest so i'd be somewhat leery or what to expect.

Kirk Cameron is cool but i have to agree with Mina about the Left Behind movies (actually movie... the first one turned me off so bad i wouldn't touch any of the others :p), although i suspect a large reason why i didn't like him in that was due to crappy writing on the part of the screenwriters, waaaay too cheesy/preachy for my liking.

Mina I understand where your coming from and if I was in a church like that, I'd be turned off too. I've come across a few like that. THe movie "saved" isn't Christian but kind of shows that kind of spirit....I cried when I saw that movie, I know it wasn't meant to make me cry, but it rang a sad truth in how Christians sometimes push things to extremes. I am glad though for the promotion of good values that much of America has lost over time in the entertainment industry.

I agree little_tigress, I wasn't that impressed with Kirk Cameron, but I think about the independent film festivals I've attended and they weren't any better. ITs as polished as hollywood, but the messages in Christian film are 10x better. I think although his acting might not be as good, I think it'll maybe allow for other famous actors that have faith and are hiding to maybe step out.

I agree with you about Saved. Don't get me wrong, i think Christian messages and TRUTH are very much needed in the entertainment industry. And who knows i might love this movie, but I don't agree with pressuring people to go see it and and telling them if they don't support it then they support what is wrong with the world. I'd rather be involved with living out faith and touching people's lives than reliying on a movie to fix what is wrong with the world. Anyways , i know i sorta have strong opinions about this and it's just a movie, but i've lived with the intense promotion of this film for a while now and while i think the sancitiy of marriage is a wonderful thing and i strongly support and agree with God's principles on relationships and marriage, i just don't think i'd enjoy this film right now in my life. In fact i think it would make me focus on what i don't have more.

Mina I think I see where your coming from. IF it starts feeling Pharisee, it's probably best to run away. The Lord wants us to do things out of a realness of heart, not from pressure. I'm the same way currently with some involvement in church, I see too many people esteemed and that's not a position I feel comfortable in, even if the pastor and others ask me. I'm a bit of a rebel myself, but I manage. My reputation is "she's not that INVOLVED, but I think she'd be good to help out with a bible study". My bible study leader told me, I already knew before it was said though. I think also for me its distance and the hours at my job, I hope to be more involved in the future - but with a right heart I guess.

i did pray about should i go tonight or not. I don't think i'm not going out of spite or b/c i hate marriage or anything like that. Quite the contrary, but yeah it's complicated, and it's probably best that I didn't go tonight. With different people and under a different circumstance, i'd probably feel very different. But i don't feel like i'm missing that much so i'm not that upset.

Organized movie watching reminds me of our "political education" or "patriotic education" because that's what we did when I was in middle school, although I'm not saying it's necessarily bad.

The reason its important to see the movie opening weekend is to send Holywood a message and push more people to see it.

You are not a failure as a Christian if you don't see it, obviously.

However it is a very wise and good thing to do.

That's totally not what it's about. I went to go see it yesterday with my friends Dennis and DJ from school.

(spoilers below)

It's about a firefighter who really does want to save his marriage. Yes he faces tough situations at work, but even when he was burned in a fire trying to save a little girl, his wife (who works at the hospital) came by to see him, and just left.

The story is about first finding Christ, and then this guy's change of perspective on how he treats his wife and how he needs to love her. Even when his wife was rejecting his gestures, she still wanted a divorce, but the guy kept on at it. It's about how no matter how many times we've rejected Christ, He still loves us. Just like, no matter how many times his wife rejected him, he still loved her and wanted to save the marriage.

Sure, it's a low buget, no-name actor film, but it's a very good story and I think it's great that there is a movie out in the theater with such a heavy Christian influence. The movie is centered around Christ, and I really think that people should give it a chance and go see it.
