My cell group leader recently told us that when she lays hands on us and is praying for us that sometimes our eyelids are fluttering and twitching. She said that it is just a sign of the Holy Spirit working.
This has happened to me very often. Has it happened to any of you? Or have you seen it happen to someone you have been praying for?

YES!!! Happens to me all the time! It's one of the signs for me to know that the Holy Spirit is REALLY active on me.. Only when my eyes twitch a LOT do i know there's a HUGE presence of God

Wow, thanks for posting, that's awesome! I used to think I was just nervous because someone was praying for me or something. I'm so glad that I can now relax and just soak up the presence of God.

I suppose each personis unique and different. I wouldn't necessarily read to much into it one way or another.
True, I was just curious to see if it had happened to many other people.

I've experienced it often too, especially in prayer. Its called REM when its associated with sleep. During the REM stage of our sleeping pattern our brain activity increases, we breathe deeper and our voluntary muscles are more relaxed. Most of our dreams occur during the REM stage of sleep.

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: Acts 2:17

You know me...I'm the resident skeptic. But this does raise an interesting point. I'll have to think on this a bit to work it out in my brain.

Perhaps the twitching and fluttering of the eyelids is a physical reaction because the expectation of God doing something is extremely elevated at those times.

That's more what I would tend to think....people getting themselves worked up.

Its also related to a Theta brain wave response - a deep, relaxation state. Theta healing, a new age healing modality, teaches practitioners how to enter into the Theta state to maximize their healing abilities. The eye fluttering is the sign we looked for to teach students that they were at the proper level to bring down healing.

So eye fluttering can be a spiritual state, but it also can be purely physiological. It can be experienced through a Holy Spirit encounter, but also replicated in other religions or spiritual practices.

I can also replicate it right here right now while typing....I can't close my eyes without fluttering unless I'm completely relaxed.
