I am really bothered about a scripture someone gave me in another thread.

Exodus 23:25-26.
If you worship the Lord your God, I will bless your bread and your water. I will take away sickness from you. None of your women will have her baby die before it is born, and all women will have children. I will allow you to live long lives.

Is this meant for people today?
Am I taking this out of context?

Does this mean that I am disobeying God because I have miscarried 5 times. I know I disobey every day but surely God wouldnt allow me to go through so many miscarriages, would He?

I dont feel good about this today. I am disobeying God to an extent that Im not feeling or feel I am doing wrong.

I know someone will come on here and tell me that the verse isnt for today but I believe it is.
If that was so then the whole Bible would be meaningless, wouldnt it?

My last miscarriage was only this year in Feb. I am upset, not with God but me. I just cant get this right.

The Bible verse above has to be taken in the spiritual meaning that the blessings of God will be upon all those who seek Him, worship Him, understand Him and follow Him.

The blessings indicated above are Earthly Blessings like Providing Food and Water, Taking away sickness, Women not suffering miscarriages and granting long lives.

It is true and good that we get such earthly blessings from God for being faithful to Him. God is not only interested to bestow Earthly Blessings to His children but Spiritual Blessings also.

We know that "Bad things do happen to Good people and even God's children too". Now, as to why these things happen is a difficult question to answer perfectly. There could be various reasons for it. One has to examine it on an individual basis.

Ecclesiastes 9:11 - I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

According to the above verse, all kinds of situations (good and/or bad) happen to all people on earth whether rich or poor, wise or simple, strong or weak.

There are reasons why God allows adversity in our lives -

Ecclesiastes 7:14 - In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.

Isaiah 30:20 - And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers:

5 Miscarriages is a great adversity and one's Faith in God is tested to the very core. I am really sorry that you have to pass through this. What is your Reaction to this adversity is the question?

Job faced adversity, and God wanted to see his Reaction.

It is certainly not because you have disobeyed God. Most of us disobey God and fail to live upto His Divine Standards everyday. We make mistakes in the pursuit of spiritual perfection. And God very well understands us that we are a work-in-progress. He does not punish us for such silly and wrong reasons. There is a much higher purpose for that which God allows in our lives.

Spiritual Blessings are received through facing Adversity, Trials and Afflictions. That is why the Bible says, 'Bread of Adversity" and "Water of Affliction". It is a hard thing to take and some of us may not like to think on these lines. It is mainly for us to receive spiritual blessings that God allows adversities, trials and afflictions. Rev. David Wilkerson had written an article titled, "Don't waste your afflictions" which helps us to understand why God allows afflictions and when He allows such afflictions what is our Reaction? What is our Inference?

The wife of an elder christian brother of mine had 3 miscarriages and then they had 2 children. The Doctor(s) suggested that it was due to old age and also due to excessive tensions. Her husband was not with her during the delivery times and the Doctor suggested him to make it sure that he was available near her during the delivery period.

So, blessings ahead for you i hope...

Hope this helps.

Lord bless you.

In Matthew it says "I bring rain on the just and the unjust, I bring sunlight on the righteous and the unrighteous" Sometimes God allows things to happen to us for a reason that we may never understand. I lost a child in 2002. The thing that got me through was knowing that that child could not have been that child until God had formed him in my womb. I have struggled with why God does not allo wme to get pregnant easily when I have a cousin who repeatedly gets pregnant and then has an abortion. I don't know the answer, I do not know why God let me get pregnant 3 times while I was not serving Him, but the one time I got pregnant when I was serving Him, He gave me that child for only a few short weeks, and I never got to see Him. But I have peace, peace that passes all understanding, knowing that His thoughts are higher then mine, He knows what He is doing even though I don't. Someday He will share the secrets of His kingdom, but until then I am content in not knowing. Jeremiah says "I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper, not to harm you" Trust in His wisdom, Pray that He will increase your faith, with that peace will come.

Dear Jacquidube

Picture yourself as a babe in CHRIST as that is what we are called to be.

GOD says we are to accept HIM by FAITH.

HE also says we are not to dwell into things that are not ours to know.

You know what it is you must do to follow JESUS. Do it and GLORIFY HIS NAME.

I am not going to try to explain something GOD has not given me insight into and you shouldn't expect it either.

What are the important things in this life???

HAVING 1,000 CHILDREN???

BEING ANOINTED BY GOD SO WE CAN CARRY OUT THE MISSION GOD HAS FOR US???

What is MOST IMPORTANT in the end???

KEEP YOUR EYES FIXED ON GOD AND HIS KINGDOM AND REMEMBER:

X Even though you can't see him, GOD is there!!! O
( click on the x and drag to the O ) ( then see who is with you ) steven

First off I want to say, "I am sorry."

The quote I used was levitical law. To read now about bread and water, remember what Jesus said:

I am the true bread from heaven (John 6:28-58). And then to the woman at the well he said, If you knew who I was you would ask me for water. For the water that comes from him is eternal and gives life (John 4:6-26).

We now have the covenant of Jesus. Thru him we have eternal life.

Exodus 23:20-33 is a favorite verse of mine. I see Jesus and his Holy Spirit in those words. I guess I assume everyone else will too. I see the promised land (verse 23) not in just what it says but in its one day fulfillment as spoken of in Hebrews 3:19 and 4:1-16... the future day of rest and the future promised land.

The fruit we now bear is no longer flesh, but Spiritual fruit. One is fruit of the womb (Genesis 3:11-21) the other is fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23 and 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, there are many other places as well this is just the places I know off hand).

Women of old, like Samuels mom prayed for the Lord to open her womb, for she was barren. (She bore no fruit of the womb). This really bothered women, to not have children.

So now going to "And I will keep you healthy and there will be no miscarriages or infertility among your people, I will give you long full lives." I see as fulfillment of the Holy Spirit and the fruit that brings. Those of us who believe now will have eternal life. Evidence of that fruit is gifts of the Holy Spirit (I like Romans 8:15-30 for this, it shows our future hope- beyond the curse).

And as you read on in Exodus 23 our enemies will be defeated, as promised, so we can enter the Holy Land of Promise. Revelations says, Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old had passed away. And the sea was also gone.... He will remove all their sorrows, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. For the old world and its evils are gone forever!

And that they are thrown into the Lake of Fire. (Death and Grave were thrown into the lake of fire. And anyone whose name was not recorded in the book of life). These are our enemies that now inhabit the land, but we have the wonderful promise they will be defeated- as stated in Exodus: I will help you defeat the people now living in the land, and you will drive them out ahead of you!

So in no making treaties with them would be like making a deal with death and grave. We do not want to be infected by the sins of this world. So as Christ says, we are to live here, but we are not to be a part of this world.

How can we as gentiles, be judged for the sins of the slaves of Egypt? We as gentiles were not given the law of Moses. What we were given was the fulfilled law of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Suffering miscarriages and barren wombs happen because we are still living in a world of death. Its effects touch even those (animals, trees, earth...) who didnt eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. They too wait in great anticipation of the renewal of all things, including them. (The quote from Romans)

So again, I am sorry.

May the Lord bless you and keep you in his loving care, showing you his great love for you.

Those verses were a specific component of a specific covenant with a specific people at and for a specific time. They express what God wants to do for us, but we will not see them totally fulfilled until God's new age arrives.
