What exactly is meant by this?

For many weeks now I have been having these thoughts that God is not going to bring my dreams to pass and I'm having these doubtful feelings and despair. Would this be considered a "fiery dart" of Satan?

I know that this isn't true however when scripture says that no good thing will God withhold from those that love him.

Chris - I think that's exactly what those thoughts are. Remember Satan's conversation with Eve? "Surely you won't die". With you it's "Surely you aren't good enough/Christian enough/whatever enough that God will help you to bring about your dreams? So why not give them up?"

Doesn't that sound familiar? Yeah, me too!

Get one of those little books from the Christian bookstore that has the "Promises of God". They are usually inexpensive and arranged by topic. I have several and give them out like candy to people (Christian or not) who are discouraged! :)

Well said Newlamb.

I believe Satan wants us to not take God seriously. To doubt God. I have had a simmilar problem lately. Not doubting God, but doubting myself. I have no doubt God will bring to pass certain things in my life, and that he will help me through everything. My problem is with myself. I worry that I wont do my part. I guess these are feelings of "not being good enough." I believe that is from Satan as well. "Why would God want to use me/help me?" What have I done to deserve anything at all? Nothing. But God loves us anyway. He takes care of us anyway. I think thats what we need to remember. God is good, he is great and I have no doubt about his love or kindness.

A fiery dart was used in warfare and is an arrow set on fire and shot to burn down a persons clothes, or home or fort. The tactic was to get the fire to spread and not so much the puncture of the wound. That is why Ep 6:13 focus is on quenching or extinguishing the fire with the shield of faith. Faith is accepting what is written or spoken as true. You have to believe what God say's about your destiny only and you will act on those things and not let contrary thoughts spread to your actions. If your dreams are in line with God's Word then He will bring it to pass... if you believe.

Consider this though Chris, what *you* think maybe good for you, may not be the *best* for you. However God *will* do what is best for you. Romans 8:28 "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Ultimately it all comes down to trusting *his* plan for your life.
You have faith that God will do what's best for you...that faith, that sheild will quench any fiery dart saying that he won't. He will. I know this from personal experience. God will work wonders in your life. He loves you, and wants the best for you, even though the best may not seem so terrific right now.
In peace,
Eruliel
