My uncle passed away in his sleep a few nights ago and left behind a devoted wife and 2 adorable little girls. He was a friend to everyone and it's a sad time for us all. I was wondering if anybody knew of any uplifting quotes from the bible about heaven and how death is not the end but only the beginning? I would be so very much appreciative to anybody who could help me in any possible way.
Thanks again

I always like Luke 9:

59He said to another man, "Follow me."
But the man replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."
60Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God."

Basically, we shouldn't get caught up in the world, but hold to God and His commands. We don't have enough life ourselves to spend it worrying.

Revelation 21:4: "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." (NIV)

Also the message of how Jesus died and 3 days later He rose again. Death does not conquer a Christian.

Was your uncle a born-again Christian?

Psalm 116
I love the Lord, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.
Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call upon him as long as I live.

The cords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave came upon me;
I was overcome by trouble and sorrow.
Then I called on the name of the Lord
...
For you, O Lord, have delivered my soul from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling,
that I may walk before the Lord in the land of the living..

Job 19:25-27
For I know that my Redeemer lives,
and that at the last he will stand upon the earth;
and after my skin has been thus destroyed,
then in my flesh I shall see God,
whom I shall see on my side,
and my eyes shall behold, and not another.
My heart faints within me!

Jesus empathizes with our loss as he himself is aquainted with sorrow, grief, and loss: Luke 7:11-18; John 11:1-45. He cried about the death of Lazarus for he too was grieved. He chose to ressurect Lazarus' body then and there;but Jesus will ressurect everyone when he returns.

John 11:25-27
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" She said to him, "Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one coming into the world."

Romans 8:1,2
Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.

Ecclessiates 3:1-7
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build up,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them
a time embrace and a time to refrain
a time to search and a time to give up
a time to keep and a time to keep awy
a time to tear and a time to mend

BIG HUGS TO CHRISTIANGIRL!!!!!! KEEP YOUR CHIN UP AND YOUR EYES ON JESUS! ;)

Revelation 21:4 And He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.

1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.

2 Corinthians 5:8 We are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Isaiah 51:11 So the ransomed of the LORD will return And come with joyful shouting to Zion, And everlasting joy will be on their heads. They will obtain gladness and joy, And sorrow and sighing will flee away.

Psalm 119:50 This is my comfort in my affliction, That Your word has revived me.

Hi Christian Girl,

Firstly let me say how sorry I am to hear of your loss. I will pray for your Uncle, his wife and daughters and for the rest of the family to have the strength to be there for them.

I love Psalm 23, as it is very peaceful.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want,
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads be beside quiet waters,
he restores my soul.
He guides me in the paths of righteousness
for his names sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shaow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me,
Your rod and your staff they comfort me. ...

Also have a look at 2 Peter 3 : 9
"The lord is not slow at keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentence."

To me, this reads that God will reveal himself to your uncle and allow him to repent and gain salvation. Whether or not he knew God already he will be given that chance.

God Bless,
Mini

Thank you so much for your replies and showing me these comforting bible sayings. I will show my aunt and cousins these quotes and I pray that they will not lose faith in Jesus especially in their time of mourning.
servant4ever, you asked if my uncle was a born-again Christian. I'm not exactly sure what that means. I know he was a Christian, but not sure about "born-again." I don't think he went to church really but I'm pretty sure he was a believer.

thanks to everybody. your thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

1 Corinthians 15:50-58 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.

Romans 8:37-39 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Philippians 1:21 ...to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Hi there!

Job 19:25-27 rhe For I know that my Redeemer liveth, and in the last day I shall rise out of the earth. (26) And I shall be clothed again with my skin, and in my flesh I shall see my God. (27) Whom I myself shall see, and my eyes shall behold, and not another: this my hope is laid up in my bosom.

hi Christiangirl..

in one of your posts you mentioned not knowing what being "born again" was, it seems to me that this is a very serious issue, as Jesus plainly says that one must be born again in order to see heaven....

Joh 3:3 ESV Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."

the Catholic bible Douay Rheims says it like this:
Joh 3:3 rhe Jesus answered and said to him: Amen, amen, I say to thee, unless a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

I hope and pray that you would not only find out if your uncle was born again, but that you would be born again as well.... I would be happy to talk this over with you , if you like...

blessings
