I’ve been listening to some of the writings of Ellen White to get a better idea of what she actually taught and found quite a few disturbing things regarding her “Reformed Diet”. She claims that eating meat, butter, cakes, and pies inhibits our Spiritual discernment, moral discernment, scriptural discernment, as well as blemishes our soul rendering us as “pitiful and feeble offerings” when we are presented before God. She claims that eating these things are displeasing to God. One thing I find interesting is that God specifically commanded the Israelites to eat meat during the Passover celebration. It was nonnegotiable. Every household was commanded to slaughter a goat and everyone in the household was commanded to eat all of it in haste nonstop until all of it was completely consumed. None of it was allowed to be left over or discarded. She also rebuked some of the women in her congregation for baking cakes and pies in preparation of the Sabbath saying that too much effort went into these pastries that should’ve been spent on Spiritual development. But in Leviticus 24 God actually commanded the Israelites to bake 12 cakes in preparation of the Sabbath and it was to be observed for every Sabbath. These cakes were not to be eaten but instead to be placed on the alter but nonetheless they were commanded to be prepared in preparation of every Sabbath. From what I can see according to the scriptures, her teachings on the subject of the Reformed Diet are contradictory to what the Bible teaches us about Christ’s atonement, the effect meat has on a person spiritually, God’s view on our diet, and God’s expectations in preparation of the Sabbath. It would seem to me that people who are drawn in by this theology are lacking some very fundamental knowledge of the scriptures. What passages of scripture do you think can either support or contradict this theology? Heres a link to the list of YouTube videos of her writings I got this information from.

I'm glad I don't beleive anything she says.
It is written..."For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer." (1 Tim 4:4-5)
Believe the apostle of the Lord.

So at 46 minutes into this video she says that the people who died in the flood died because they ate meat which caused them to live a sinful life. What I find absolutely intriguing is that on the very day that Noah stepped off of the ark, God told him to eat anything alive that moves. So Ellen White is saying that God killed everyone on the earth except for Noah and his family because they ate meat and the first thing God does after the flood is tell Noah to eat meat. Lol wow I’m going to refrain from opinions at this time.

I think Colossians 2:16 pretty much refutes her entire theology in one verse.

“Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2‬:‭16‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

I suppose those kinds of rules can be more about being devoted. And devoted to what? To Jesus, or to the Sabbath??

"Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation," (in Philippians 2:13-16)

So, this scripture talks about what can make us not only devoted, but more like Jesus. By stopping our complaining and arguing, this can result in us being blameless and harmless and without fault . . . right "in the midst of" this evil world's "crooked and perverse generation".

The SDA movement also heavily influenced what the general public, guidelines and even doctors accept as the nutrition science, which only lately began to come to light:

I’ll have to check this out as well. Thanks for sharing it.

So I’ve been listening to her writings some more from the list of videos I posted in the OP and apparently if we don’t observe the “reformed diet” that she teaches then we aren’t capable of appreciating Christ’s atonement. I thank God every night for the sacrifice He made for us. Every night.

The vibe that I get from listening to her writings seems like an I’m holier than everyone else sort of vibe. And it seems like even when she’s addressing her congregation she still has that holier than everyone else vibe in what she says and the way she says it. She’s always comparing things that she does with things that others do and is always telling them that they should do these things the way she does. She talks about humility and temperance quite often but I don’t get the feeling in her writings that she was a very humble person because of the way she always elevates herself above others, even those in her congregation.

It has been shown SDA’s live 10+ years longer than the average person in the US according to the BlueZone Study so must be doing something right https://www.cnbc.com/2023/09/26/lom...y-blue-zone-in-the-us-does-for-longevity.html

Rom 12:1 I beseech[a] you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your [b]reasonable service.

Our bodies are meant to be a temple for the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit, so how we live, what we eat matters.

Here is a Sunday pastor who did some interesting math on Sabbath-keepers living longer

It all depends on how you want to look at it and which source you want to quote. SDA members don’t have the longest life expectancy in the world, just in America according to that study. Swedish and Japanese people actually live longer than SDA members and most Japanese people aren’t even Christian. I’m not really concerned with life expectancy, it’s Ellen Whites claims about how our diet influences our moral, spiritual, and scriptural discernment that concerns me the most. As well as her claim that eating meat displeases God and blemishes our soul rendering us as “pitiful and feeble offerings to God”. Colossians 1:22 absolutely refutes that idea. Christ’s atonement is complete. There’s no such thing as a partial atonement. A person is either completely atoned in Christ or not atoned at all, there is no blemished soul for those who are in Christ.

Romans 12 begins with the word “Therefore” indicating that the author is expanding on his previous statements which had absolutely nothing to do with diet in Romans 11. Ellen White quoted that verse out of context because Paul doesn’t mention a single word about a person’s diet in Romans 11 or 12. He does however in chapter 14.

Ellen White railed against eating meat. Do you have any scriptures to support her claims about eating meat?

Genesis. God never created man to eat meat. Creation was always God’s perfect plan before sin. We will not be eating meat in heaven either, everything reverts back to God’s perfect plan.

It was God who told man to eat meat in Genesis 9 the day Noah stepped off the ark. In Exodus 13 He commanded the Israelites to eat meat. Jesus ate meat on numerous occasions and even fed meat to several thousands of people. He even ate meat with His apostles after His resurrection. Man has been eating meat with God’s blessing for 4,000 years. Ellen White’s message doesn’t line up with scripture. She said that the people who died in the flood became sinful because they ate meat. As if meat was the cause of their sin. If meat was the cause of their sin then why would God tell Noah to eat meat as soon as he stepped off the ark?

I did some searching for SDA answers to the question why Ellen White said that we can’t eat meat and they say that meat today isn’t like it was in biblical times because it’s polluted with chemicals and unnatural steroids and things of that nature but this answer still doesn’t line up with what Ellen White taught since she said that the meat that was eaten by the people who died in the flood had the exact same effect. They didn’t have chemicals or steroids or anything unnatural. It seems like they tried to answer the question with the best answer they could think of but that answer didn’t actually come from Ellen White and their answer doesn’t explain why meat before the flood would have the same effect but then afterwards it didn’t even affect all people the same way. For example, she also said that Sodom & Gomorrah were destroyed because they became sinful because of eating meat but at that same time they were eating meat Abraham was eating meat according to the scriptures and yet he didn’t become sinful. So there’s a huge inconsistency here in her teachings. Why would the people of Sodom & Gomorrah become sinful from eating meat if meat has that effect on people but Abraham didn’t become sinful?

Thats because the average person in the US is eating junk food, obese, not moving, drinking alcohol etc. When you compare the SDA members to healthy individuals who do not smoke and do not drink alcohol, the SDA veganism has no advantages. For example the Mormons's life span is the same as of the Adventists and they eat meat. The common denominator is no alcohol and no smoking.

Alcohol and smoking are two most potent carcinogens in one's diet.

Swedish and Japanese people actually live longer and they don’t observe the dietary laws.

I like the comparison to Mormons, because its a very similar group - the same country, similar life style, both religious, both family oriented, both strictly against alcohol and smoking. But Mormons eat meat. And they are as healthy as the SDA members, according to some studies even healthier (in reproduction health).

But yes, if I needed to choose between existing national diets, Swiss, Spanish, Italian, Greek or Scandinavian would be my choice, but without sugar. The Japanese one has a lot of weird sea things in it I am not used to and a lot of pork I eat only sporadically.

These nations observe neither the dietary nor the Sabbath laws. But are blessed with health, even despite frequent alcohol consumption. However, in more religious regions, they keep the Sunday rest.

At 16:45 into the video Ellen White says this

All are required to do what they can to preserve healthy bodies and sound minds. If they will gratify a gross appetite, and by so doing blunt their sensibilities, and becloud their perceptive faculties so that they cannot appreciate the exalted character of God, or delight in the study of His word, they may be assured that God will not accept their unworthy offering any sooner than that of Cain. God requires them to cleanse themselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of the Lord. After man has done all in his power to ensure health, by the denying of appetite and gross passions, that he may possess a healthy mind, and a sanctified imagination, that he may render to God an offering in righteousness, then he is saved alone by a miracle of God's mercy, as was the ark upon the stormy billows.
