Hi, I will be proposing soon. Tradition says I'm supposed to drop down on one knee and ask her to marry me, which I'm more than willing to do. But I was just wondering; does this conflict with any Christian principles? Aren't you not supposed to kneel before anyone except God?

From my understanding, when the Bible talks about not kneeling before anyone but God, I personally took it to mean Do Not Bow in worship to, or in idolatry to, anyone but the Lord. But that's just my interpretation - you obviously have your own thoughts on it.

I'm guessing you're not worshipping your fiance-to-be, so personally I think it's ok to go down on one knee. Obviously if you're not comfortable to do so, then don't - it's only a tradition and it's your choice as to whether you stick to it or not :)

Hope it goes well either way!!

My husband didn't do the "on one knee" thing, and I don't feel like I missed anything. He also didn't say the traditional "will you marry me" because we had already discussed marriage, and he already knew what my answer would be.

I'd say- don't do it if you're uncomfortable with it. If your gf loves you enough to marry you, she will not be too concerned about whether you're on your knees or not!

HA! I knew that he was proposing and it was in front of my WHOLE family, mom, dad, 2 sisters, their hubbies, our 4 kids (2 his and 2 mine) and my 2 nieces. My mom made a motion to him that told him "Get down on one knee." before he did it...LOL! It was all so sweet, and I loved it! I wouldn't have minded either way, really, but it was more important that he did it to my mom. LOL! Which is really funny when you realize that we both were previously married before, (not to each other, but due to our spouses' infidelities we were divorced.)

So if you have an issue with dropping to one knee, don't propose in front of the family! hehehe

I have to tell a story- when hubby proposed, he dropped on one knee, he took off his brace that day (e had recently broke his leg) and dropped on one knee in the middle of a snow pile.
I think it's almost expected by any hopeless romantic women such as myself.

First off, these little stories are making me go "awwww" and second, I'm pretty sure that verse in the Bible is in Ester and her uncle was the first to even say that--that is, it is not actually a law. Not worshipping other gods is a law, but even godly kings had people bow to them; do you think God would have stayed quiet about it if he had a problem with it?

I would look it up, but I still say on one knee=romantic.
