Dreaming in tongues

Hey y'all. So I used to be huge into the spiritfilled/Charismatic Movement. Due to various reasons I decided to stop being a part of it about 6 years ago. Here lately though, I've been having dreams where I've been speaking in tongues. This wasn't just once but has been happening several times lately. Interesting to is that I never had this happen when I actively partook in it. Any of yall have this happen before?

Lol charismania? Haha. Basically I just got tired of the people. It seemed like most of the folks I had ever seen weren't really worshipping God but, in a sense, getting high. Like nothing mattered more than that spiritual rush. That rush and various other things were more important than serving God, spreading his word. Pretty much all of them were content stating on the mountain but weren't willing to serve in the valley.

I have had dreams where I saw myself speaking in tongues even though I have not spoken in tongues when fully awake. I am seeking God on it to have a prayer language when I am awake. I have been praising God for the past few days, and I notice I am making progress. May be you dream is telling you to awaking your past. Are you a church goer still? If so may be God is telling you to utilize this gift. It can also be telling you to go back to your old roots church wise. But please pray on this and ask God because its vague enough to have several meanings. But only God will tell you the true meaning. But I have experience tongues in dreams and semi awaking state.

Its a matter of finding the right church that is balance. A church where they teach the full gospel and also believe in the power of the holy Spirit. A church that does not make the gifts more important than God. A church that does not have a form of godliness without the power. A balance church that does not water down the word, that loves God, and believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Pray and ask God to guide you to this type of church.

There are none here in Indiana. I wish there were but they all want to just speak about the gifts, healing, end times, prosperity doctrine, deliverance, and the newest "miracle" or "gift" that they are in a hooplah about without testing the spirits and using discernment as they should, and all this other stuff but rarely want to talk about salvation. None the less, I digress, I just find it odd that after all this time, now, I am doing this. I mean, I did recently get back into ministry after several years of not doing anything. Idk. To be honest I do miss the closeness I felt and I know that what I experienced was real, I just needed to get away from all the craziness and the outright unbiblical things happening in the churches I was attending.

Yes, I slept and He/ my spirit prayed, but just quiet.

It's happened again the last couple of nights. Interesting bit is that there are people listening intently even though I'm speaking in languages not of this world and I'm also out of body, meaning that I'm watching myself do this.

Is it possible for you to travel further afield for a church which stands on the Word of God?

When I have prayed in tongues it was like a personal system update (speaking in terms of Windows 8 updates ). 1 Cor 14: 4a comes to mind as in the Holy Spirit is edifying and improving you. Have a look at 1 Cor 14:2 also. During private prayer times, when I have prayed in tongues, I've felt refreshed afterwards as in not so burdened.

I have only spoken in tongues once whilst dreaming but on waking I couldn't remember the whole dream. What I do recall was that I was struggling with something unseen, I was speaking in tongues to it and it withdrew. Funny thing was that according to my ex, I was speaking in tongues out loud whilst sleeping (background to this was that there was both Islam and Christianity in the household which was quite a struggle in itself). He described it as an unknown language and that I sounded very firm - all this whilst sleeping. He appeared unsure/fearful of it. Since that incident I don't recall speaking in tongues in dreams.

As you've rightly picked up, when a church gathering puts more emphasis on the gifts and not on rightly dividing the Word of God/focusing on Him only, then it's time to be fed elsewhere.

Keep praying about finding a church and also ask the Lord that if the dreams are from Him to provide you with a deeper, scriptural understanding of its meaning but if it is not from Him that He blocks those dreams.

I'm really going to have to give this a lot of thought. Usually I know what my dreams mean. This I don't. I mean, I'm in a non-discript area. People from my church are surrounding me, listening as I speak gibberish, and it's obvious by their reaction that they understand what I'm saying. I don't though, I can't understand what I'm saying.

Wow! I love how the Lord works, I wasn't going to reply. God is good.

Do you still have anything linked to Islam in your house? (Arabic/English Qu'ran, Hadeeths, magazines etc?) Not long after that dream, things offline changed to where I was able to remove anything linked to Islam in the house, what I could burn, I burned, what I could tear up, I tore up and threw away. I repented to the Lord and swore I would not have anything at home linked to that belief again (See 2 Kings 22 and 23 King Josiah). The warfare stopped and I've not dreamt in tongues since (kids stopped having nightmares too).

Maybe that plus the fact that you are seeking the truth of Christ is where you're getting these dreams...

I wonder if it is a "life finds a way" event.
You loved aspects of the Charismatic life enough to stick with it for a while, but analysis and offenses tainted how you saw it. So probably each time you did something associated with the old church, you thought of the church or the problems, instead of the pure connection with God.

In our sleep, God finds us less critical, less caught up in rational battles, and is sometimes able to accomplish things He couldn't slow us down to do while awake.

I've found myself praying in dreams before, (and conscious of how odd it was), and feeling like something got accomplished in reality. It was powerful but a little embarrassing, that I had to be in dream state for God to accomplish that.

In those cases, there was a sense of pending events so large and traumatic that He was probably stirring a lot of people to pray. We are surely facing that sort of thing now, around the world. Be glad God wanted you to be part of the intercession.

You might need to get that sword of the spirit and start preaching what Paul preached to the Corinthians! You might get flak but isn't that what Jesus said we would get? Did Jesus retreat when He encountered the Pharisees? Maybe you are there to be the watchman's trumpet of warning that the Bible must be taken notice of.

Who knows what God has in store. Im excited to see what he does have in store. My wife has noticed a huge attitude shift over the last week for the better so I'm really thinking that this was a spiritual warfare event and also prophetic considering that I spoke with my pastor and they have huge things coming that they want me a part of. Ooowee goosebumps. I haven't felt this way in 6 years!

You posted many years ago ... Can I ask how that ended up?

I am asking this because last time I had such a dream where the words to pray in tongues were given me by the holy spirit instead of being created by my consciousness.

I have never been speaking in tongues and generally this topic is really vague for me. I have always thought that such a prayer is with the fully collaboration with Holy Spirit - I use my tongue, I use my mouth but the words I say loom / pop in my head ....

However in really many places I heard people saying you have to start "cooing" like a baby and then over the time it will develop and 2, 3 words phrases will come ... I am really perplexed because this is not how I have always thought it should work and I think you speak or not speak in tongues ... generally an idea to learn speaking in tongues conflict with my perception on this matter ... And really I think that people fake it ...

Know someone who had preached against tongues several times and told others they weren't of God. However, much later prayed Lord whatever you want me to do, I'll do. He immediately began to speak in tongues. He was caught off guard and took awhile for him to process what had happened. But he continued. Told me he now regretted every time he had told others they weren't of God.

Agree that sometimes that sleeping time is when some barriers are down. God directed people in dreams such as Joseph on how to take care of Jesus while on earth (Matt 1 - 2). He had a conversation with Solomon. I Kings 3.

Heard of other believers speaking in tongues during their sleep.

Thank you tturt. I have just read somewhere that true speaking in tongues starts immediately and usually when You worship the God. The feeling of extreme happiness and joy go hand in hand with tongue speaking.

I remember one situation many years ago when I was in a church. The group of people were praying by singing on the guitar. The light was dim, I was sitting on a bench at the back of church and then suddenly I felt so extreme feeling to burst into laughter that I was covering my face and hunched because I felt so ashamed of my behavior. Nothing happened but that feeling was really extraordinary ...

Wow...completely forgot about this...

2 months after this, I became an over-the-road truck driver. 2 months later my wife left me on my birthday. I left Christianity again for Islam. During this time, I met my current wife and we've had 2 children. In 2017 my current wife and I were delivered from the lies of Islam and after a year and a half found a great church that is spirit-filled. God got a hold of her heart and my heart and turned them towards Him. I am now attending Regent University for a degree in Biblical and Theological studies and my wife actively participates in ministry through a prayer and deliverance group at our church among other areas. I also serve in several different areas in my church from being my pastor's assistant to being over security and co-leading our men's group. The Lord has truly blessed me though it got very, very rocky there for a while.

Truth be told, when I wrote this post and the whole time I was "back in" Christianity, from about 2014 until we got divorced in 2015 (the wife in the original post and I moved kinda quick lol) I was still struggling with a lust for Islam. The only reason I left Islam is because I was lonely and wanted a relationship with someone. I lied to myself during that time to make myself believe that I believed in Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I went back to Islam for another couple of years after our divorced until the Lord completely delivered me in 2017 and I haven't looked back.

Understand - it happened to me at a conference. Never heard of laughing in church - then it was over.

Know there's some on here that don't believe it's of God. i don't need their seal of approval. I know it was God - that burden lifted, peaceful, and joyful - extraordinary

Reminds me of "While Peter was speaking, the Holy Spirit cascaded over all those listening to his message. 45 The Jewish brothers who had accompanied Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out on people who weren’t Jews, 46 for they heard them speaking in supernaturally given languages and passionately praising God." Acts 10.
