Weird question but...for reason of a strange fear that I have of the devil interfering with my prayers or hearing my prayers, I heard someone once say the devil can't read minds, so I guess I would ask...can The Lord hear or answer and listen to prayers if I pray them silently or in my mind? Unless I am just being paranoid..

Samuel's mother prayed silently, her lips moved but her words
weren't heard-- Eli the priest, thought she was drunk.
She was praying that the Lord would give her a child.
(Read Chapter 1 of 1 Samuel)

Yes, God hears silent prayers and he knows you intimately-- your
thoughts, the desires of your heart.

Remember when Sarai/Sarah laughed(inwardly) when she heard the angel of the Lord reveal to
Abram/Abraham she would become pregnant-- Sarai denied that she had
laughed but the angel of the Lord said: 'Indeed, you did laugh."
(Read Genesis Chapter 18)

I only pray inwardly/silently, and yes He can. There's nothing to indicate He could only hear words spoken aloud. As for the devil eavesdropping...I'm not sure how much he can hear and what he's cant. I'd like to think the prayers are private.

God knows all so yes. The devil and his demons aren't everywhere and he also can't read minds, no the future etc. He's basically an immortal, highly intelligent, super natural human being. Yes if he's around, he can interfere with prayers, look at what happened to Daniel, God sent an angel to deliver the answer, but it took 21 days because of the devil fighting the first angel. This is why it's so important to pray in tongues, actually that is our NATURAL language once you're saved. Anyway no need to be paranoid when you pray with the intellectual language, just ask the angels to keep the answer of your prayer unhindered :). You have authority over the devil, USE it! Don't have a conversation with him lol but you can always ask for the answer to come unhindered.

Not all Christians are able to pray in tongues. I know that my wife and I are both unable to do so. My wife has prayed for tongues for a few years now believing that she will receive them and has not.

To the OP, yes, God hears our silent prayers. About 99.9% of my prayers are silent.

Actually ALL believers are able to speak in tongues. This isn't the same as the Gift of Tongues but speaking in tongues (personal prayer language) is a sign that FOLLOWS all believers. Keyword is "follows" and when something follows, you don't ask for it but simply use it. You speak in tongues on your own will just like you talk on your own will and can also sing in tongues as well. You control everything about it. It's a matter of just stepping out by faith and just speaking. Don't be surprised if you keep saying the same thing just keep speaking and the Holy Spirit will give you more words. I use to think not everybody can do it until I got baptized in the Holy Spirit (saved) then God revealed it to me through a pastor then I stepped out in faith and began speaking. You and your wife already have it if you've gotten baptized in the Holy Spirit (saved), now just speak :)

I pray often but alot of times through the day I pray silently. Example my mother and I were headed up to the hospital to see my dad (hes doing fine now) and we were talking in the car. Then suddenly she was behind a guy in a car who was going really slow on the freeway. So she started swearing at him and drove by him staring at him.

As she did this I said inside "God please help her to calm down and to stop taking your name in vein!". Then after a few seconds she calmed down and started talking again. So silent prayers do work. For me I also tend to do them because I can say a sentence in my head clearly, but getting the words out seems to be harder (probably from the brain injury).

I respectfully disagree.

My wife and I are saved and speaking/praying in tongues is not the qualifier for salvation (saved).

I'm not exactly sure but if you want to pronounce something upon yourself/ your life such as good health, prosperity, peace etc. that should be done out loud. When God was creating the Earth he spoke out loud. "And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light." - Genesis 1:3. I don't think you can pray for anything in your head and then expect it to happen. In Matthew 4:10 - 11 Jesus rebuked the devil by speaking out loud he did not say it in his head. "Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him."

You should not be afraid of the devil. He cannot do anything to you. "“I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." - Matthew 10:28 - 31. Peace be with you. :)

There are no verses in all of scripture saying that all believers can speak in tongues or should speak in tongues. So whether we can or can not is really not important. It's secondary.

Yeah we've had this subject many times about tongues. Sure I'm sure anyone could, but my belief is it is a rare gift. 90% of the people that claim to speak it usually just babble non sense and claims it was tongues. But they fail to realize you don't just speak tongues for the heck of it. Whenever you speak it, there is a message that someone else is able to interpret. So if that isn't happening then I really doubt its actual tongues.

Is no one going to bring up mathew 6:5-8, he clearly instructs us to not pray out loud, but to go into our closet and pray. For your Father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask.

That's not the same as praying in your head and not saying anything with your lips. The whole verse actually reads, "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him." What this means is that we shouldn't show off to other people about how well we can pray or how much of a good Christian we are because we pray so much. The verse reads, "go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father..." why would you need to do this if you were praying in your head and not out loud? Nobody is going to hear you, obviously.
