I do..........

Like the "Force" in Star Wars.....

.....or Dorothy going "over the rainbow" to the Land of Oz "way up high"......

......or Neo trying to save humanity from the evil Matrix.........

......or Robert Neville giving his blood to provide a remedy for the vicious virus in " I Am Legend".........

There are dozens and dozens of other examples like this, where some secular movie is subtly flirting with ideas and ideals that are unique to either Christianity or the Bible......

Can anyone think of some other examples??......

This is a great observation and thread topic IMO. Again big thanks to Tim Myers.

I think there is a growing Christian and Biblical symbolism in media in general, not just movies but fro example adverts.
But this is not necessarily good, its to be expected. Humanism likes the fact that Jesus was like Ghandi, alas for Christians Ghandi isnt like Jesus Christ, one is a dead human and the other is the Son of God, the truth, the way and the life.
Movies have these themes because they are the bits humanism likes about Christianity, to claim them for humanism and rid the world of Jesus Christ.
In short, yes humanists can love and be charitable just as Christians can but Christianity is also about Jesus Christ, the risen Son of God and saviour of the world.

Absolutely this one. The showdown between Luke Skywalker and the Emperor in Return of the Jedi was just dripping Christianity.

Chronicles of Narnia

Would you believe Voyage of the Dawn Treader actually had Islam symbolism in it? The edge of the world, with the shallow water and all is actually drawn from Islam. Except the movie glossed over this part of the book big-time. I don't think that was meant to edit out the reference to Islam, though--I think they just edited.

I used to see Star Wars as a movie filled with Christian symbolism until I began studying eastern religions. The Force is actually more of a representation of Rta in Hinduism and the Tao in Taoism than it is of the Spirit or anything else in Christianity. Then when I found out George Lucas was inspired by eastern thought, I knew for sure. I think aside from movies based on novels written with a specific Christian bent (e.g. Narnia and LotR) we have the tendency to see what we want to see.
Blessing,
-Brandon

The thing about Christianity is that it's main themes - redemption through sacrifice, good triumphing over evil etc etc. are quite universal, almost every good fantasy/sci-fi book/movie/animation/tv show has these themes as central to the plot. Why? Because entertainment is a form of escapism and these ideas provide an outlet for people to have a psuedo-christian experience without the bad things like faith or repentance.

But at the same time, I would submit that for those who understand Christianity, seeing symbolism like this is a moment of prevenient grace peeking into the world.
