My friend says the Bible says cremation will send you straight to Hell.

He will not discuss it or tell me where the Bible says this.

Do any of you believe this and if so where do you find it in the Bible.

I have never seen this in the Bible and do not believe it.

Any comments

No I don't believe it.

Tell your friend to think about it. You die first, your soul leaves its body and if you are a christian you are accepted into heaven.

By the time you get to the funeral whether cremation or burial (which is usually days later) it is just a body. There's no life in there at all, therefore cremation cannot result in someone going to hell!!

He maybe can't tell you where it is in the bible because it's not there to find! :)

I think he's putting things beyond the reach of our Lord, which is a dangerous thing to do. Sounds like he thinks maybe when the dead rise again, he thinks it'll be harder to do with a burned and scattered body rather than a buried one.

But that's not considering the fact that a buried one eventually gets worm eaten and decomposes, so that's eventually just as bad.

Jesus can do anything. I don't think it's anywhere in the Bible.

I read a booklet about how un-christian cremation is supposed to be. I didn't accept their arguments. Usually, the reason some christians would prefer a burial over cremation is due to tradition, everyone in the Bible was buried, not cremated. Thus it is the biblical way. Also, they point to the fact that some religions cremate their dead in order to release the soul to the after life, such as in Hinduism. But we as Christians don't believe in that, so we are not bound by another religion's views. But we are bound by our conscience. If you (I'm speaking generally) feel it is wrong for a believer to be cremated, then don't you get cremated. The principles of 1Cor 8 would probably apply here, for those who, like me feel that there is nothing wrong with cremation, but I may know a brother/sister who may stumble if I excercise my freedom in this matter. Is my love for the bretheren greater than my liberty in Christ?

I don't think the Lord would send someone to hell just because their body was cremated--or burned. Just think of accidental fires that happen with people being burned up and dying in them?? Or wars where people are burned and killed and especially 911 where I know there had to be Believers who died in those flames! No, I don't think Abba would do such a thing. It's not mentioned in scripture. We will be given new bodies anyway on the Day when we are resurrected in His Glory.

King Saul committed suicide, was cremated and the bible says he's in heaven.

1 Samuel 31:12 NIV
all their valiant men journeyed through the night to Beth Shan. They took down the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth Shan and went to Jabesh, where they burned them.

Does your friend work for an undertaker that needs business?

^_^

Annie Oakley--who loved God, chose to be cremated. I think I know why she did it. She was a very modest lady, so modest, that she made sure a woman prepared her body for her funeral and that the woman took care of her body in cremation, not a man. I believe she chose to be cremated because she was famous and some weirdos might would have wanted to dig up her body and steal it and she didn't want that to happened. This was in the 20's and I watched a documentary one day where they told of a very sick demented man who dug up the body of his sweetheart-in Florida--and had sex with her. This happened in the 20's. I think maybe Annie heard about that. (she and her husband used to visit Florida in their later yrs.) and took actions to make sure nothing like that would happen to her. Annie died in 1926.

sure fire way to know the truth, if YOU don't find basis for it in the word, walk away. You don't need to subject yourself to anything that you don't believe, just love him anyway and intercede on his behalf.

This person is a typical hyper-Pentacostal that thinks you can lose your salvation everyday and twice on Sunday. He is probably at the alter every week trying to get saved again. This is not faith but hope. NOthing and I mean nothing that cause u to lose ur salvation except to give up the fiath. It matters not how u are disposed of after death for when u are dead u are done as far as the body goes. What about all those folks buried at sea during the war. THere was nothing left and we are all going back to ashes and dust so cremation just hastens it. I opt for cremation because who wants to lay under 6 feet of sod and rot plus your spouse will not have to spend half ur savings to bury u. No there is nothing wrong with either way!

I think it ok to be cremated too..

If I remember correctly, at one point in time when I was growing up i remember by mother saying that the Catholic priest at the church we belonged to wouldn't bury you if your were cremated..

And at that time, you also had to be buried in a Catholic cemetery.. When my Dad was killed in an explosion when I was 11, my mother wanted to bury him at a cemetery where my grandfather had an extra plot.. but the priest refused because it wasn't concecrated ground.. so she had to buy a lot at a Catholic cemetery..

Hi Jillymac,
Do you know of any scriptures to support that view (soul leaving the body to 'go' somewhere')

ask your friend about the vampires from Jupitor that are going to take up with rebellious women some time.....At least I can put that fable together with proof texts (there's a thread on here somewhere, of I'll email you the whole story...)

From a purely physical perspective, the physical composition of our bodies is really not all that different from a shopping cart. 2 minutes after your body dies, the composition of it (atoms, chemicals, substances, etc) is EXACTLY the same as it was when alive. What is different is what gives that composition LIFE. When our body dies (the wages of sin are death, and we all sin in our bodies), the LIFE leaves it (and you can substitute whatever word you want to use for soul, spirit, etc....).

Throw my used body on the trash heap in the back yard and burn it. I don't need it anymore! Hallalujah!!

Quite a few Christin martyr's were burned at the stake.I'd call that cremation. When we die we leave our bodies.Jesus said,God is able of these rocks to raise up decendants of Abraham.I can't find anything in scripture that says do not cremate.

I think the issue some get wondering about is how can God raise up a body in the ground that is not there, but like many point out there is no body there anyway after a period of time....what I think God meant about the physical resurrection is that God knows the DNA structure of each indiviudals physical body and will cause another one to come forth, so man once again becomes an eternal spirit, soul and body...
