This new year I decided that I want to tithe but I was wondering do I need to tithe every time I get pay or can I tithe once a month?

I agree that we give by what is on our hearts.Tithe when and how much you feel (good in your heart) about giving and doing.

To the OP... as another poster said, set aside the Lord's portion out of every cheque first but giving it once per month is ok.... I hopeThis new year I decided that I want to tithe but I was wondering do I need to tithe every time I get pay or can I tithe once a month?
There aren't any rules. Christians don't 'tithe'. Get that notion out of your head. Give whatever you want, but don't give anything out of a sense of "I have to".
As NT Christians we really need to stop calling our giving the Tithe. Tithe means a tenth, nothing more, nothing less.

Although there may be unscrupulous Christian charities out there one who is interested in donating to one can look for an ECFA seal (Ecumenical Council for Financial Accountability- http://www.ecfa.org/) on their donation page or elsewhere and better yet, go to the link above and see if they are listed as current members. There are several Christian Financial Integrity or Accountability verification organizations out there. I have always made sure they have at least the ECFA seal. I have been in a few local churches which I wished they had been certified by the ECFA.No you don't. Tithing is not required. If you wish to donate to your local church for upkeep costs and outreach, helping the needy in your local area etc then that's your choice.
I'd say avoid Christian(and most religious charities in general) charities, though, as they're amongst the worst for the amount of your dollar getting to those that need it. But for your local church, whatever and whenever.

That is what my wife and I do but we have practical reasons for it as we send ours through western union to a ministry in Zambia and to keep the fees down, we choose to do it once a month.
Pray about it is the best answer. He will give you direction.
To the other posters that are opining on the subject... the Op did not ask for your advise about tithing as he had already made his decision to do it according to Biblical principle. If you don't agree then don't follow his example but is not you place to give unsolicited advice on a question that wasn't even asked.
Didn't care for the way the GC was distributing and using God's tithe.I like the fact that you send it to the foreign ministry yourself, as opposed to giving it through the General Conference.
