Man it seems like the political discussions here on CF are just absolutely absurd from both the left and the right supporters. It’s like nobody actually cares about presenting truth, it’s all about how can I discredit my opposing party by any means necessary. People post quotes from their opposing party and distort the context that certain things were said in. They post statistics to create false narratives, it just seems so childish to me the way people are behaving on this topic. It’s like every single political thread on CF is always based on a lie. And it’s not only the left, and it’s not only the right but both sides. I mean what’s the point of creating a discussion about a topic that’s based on lies? It’s like nobody cares about the truth, they only care about how they can distort it to discredit their opponent. Is this what we should expect from Christians discussing politics? Does the statement “thou shalt not bear false witness” mean nothing when discussing politics?

Yes, what I would like to see is an objective analysis of each candidate. But that takes work because each point needs to be detailed in the weeds. Things are not simple. They get complicated and sometimes there is no sure answer. And part of it comes down to philosophical differences.

Despite all the posts here and on social media, I determine who I vote for using primary sources.

Both candidates appear on numerous videos. They have also participated in a debate together. They have been interviewed on various media (Harris more than Trump.)

I think that the message the candidates give in their own words makes the choice very clear.

I am voting on platform, of course, but primarily on two things--competence and character.

Which candidate has the competence and character that makes me feel confident our leadership will be informed, intelligent, and decisive? Which candidate has the humility to assemble a cabinet of experienced, honest, qualified individuals and to rely on their wise council instead of his/her own instincts?

A great post on your part, though I do think some in CF try to be balanced.

To an extent we can blame the media, government, politicians, and interest groups who often mislead everyone, some even on purpose. So in response, some on CF just use talking points from one candidate or the right or left leaning media outlets. It is tough to look at various research questions which in many cases have conflicting findings as well. To me both candidates lack good policies. This stems from an inability to discuss them, a desire to inflate promises that are highly unlikely to pass and in many cases neither Harris or Trump have the background needed to discuss much in detail. So basically it is all window dressing that is dragged out in some of the political forums. The media too does not ask hard questions, and would rather concentrate on whether Haitian immigrants are eating pets in the USA than what foreign policy should be if allies are attacked in SE Asia. (Many other important examples could be inserted here as well). We all could do better too in noting our sources, which would eliminate some of the off the cuff remarks and misinformation.

Amen! Akita Suggagaki posted a thread about decerning the b s but one thing that kept repeating was "our biases", which is why the passionate discussion. After all, wouldn't we be passionate to a point of delusion if we thought the other party and in my case the government is going to destroy this country?

Would it be better to vote for the effect the candidate on people socially? I personally want to vote for someone that would reduce veering off into territory that is against the bible. Not assuming, just thinking generally I'd try to think how to reduce normalization of things that aren't good amongst people.
