In the Gospel of John, the apostle Thomas refers to the nail holes in Jesus' hands. In the 1930s, experiments conducted with cadavers led researcher Pierre Barbet to conclude that nails driven through the palms of the hands could not have supported the weight of the arms and upper body —and that the nails were more likely driven through the wrists, which would have lent more support.

Turin Shroud Man was nailed on the wrists:

a nailing of the left wrist with damage to the ulnar nerve; a similar nailing of the right wrist.

When nails were involved, they were long and square (about 15cm long and 1cm thick) and were driven into the victim’s wrists or lower arms to fix him to the crossbar.

Doesn't the Gospel say His hands? The nails and washers, pictured above, compressed into His palms and grasped His hand knuckles. Holding His weight, special cruelty aimed at Jesus. Not breaking a single bone in His body, fulfilling scripture.

In the link there is a washer of wood, and I suppose Jesus' hands and feet, the bones were not broken. The washer would have snared his knuckles... if the Jews saw broken bones, they'd have taken note of that, to prove he did not fit prophecy to be the Messiah.
