In the space of just a few days, Trump’s pressure on the Congress, including siccing his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) attack dogs Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy on reckless spending, turned a 1,500 page monstrosity of a bill into a slim 120-page banger of basic necessities, including disaster relief and help for farmers.

Prior to the intervention by Trump, it looked for all the world like House Speaker Mike Johnson would stuff the Democrats’ stockings with pork and goodies to ensure that a shutdown did not mar next month’s inauguration.

The bill would have ended in Medicaid plans the practice of “spread pricing,” where PBMs charge a health plan more for a drug than what they pay to the pharmacies that dispense it, pocketing the difference. For Medicare plans that cover seniors, the bill required PBMs to pass along all rebates and fees that are based on a percentage of a drug price to their health plan clients, a reform commonly called “delinking” designed to eliminate incentives to promote expensive drugs over cheaper ones.

Yes this was a triumph for the incoming presidency and congress. This kept the government open which allows the incoming administration to concentrate on rhe agenda and not immediately having to deal with a shut down government right now.
