I have read of several instances of people who claim that starting to spend only 10 - 15 minutes a day praying in tongues has really opened up opportunities.

Just wondered if those of you here who practise this could share your experiences.

Thanks

He4rty.

I know I'm not very obedient in this area of my life but I thought some of you who post here possibly would have been.

Maybe a challenge is needed

That we all begin to pray in tongues for 10 - 15 mins a day and come back to this thread and post testimonies of our experiences of what doors God has opened.

Wow!!! Thank you for posting this...

Recently after going to the AOG National Youth Convention I've been getting the strong impression that I should start doing this more!

I've been working on it since I've returned home this week and I truely am humbled by it! It helps me remember just who I am and what I'm standing for...how serious my relationship with God is, and how deeper that relationship can go if I strive to seek after a stronger leading of the Spirit in my life.

I will gladly join that challenge with you to keep this up!

By all means, if you want to. :)

But here is another challenge. After those ten minutes, spend another ten listening. Not praising, not petitioning, not interceding, not making any noise, meaningless or meaningful, but truly listening.

How many Christians do that?

I do all the time, you're not the only one.

Prayer has different levels, different purposes, and different results. Spiritual warfare in prayer is different than waiting on The Lord type worship and prayer. Praying in the spirit has many benefits and many uses, but it is not the only type of prayer either.

"Those who wait upon The Lord shall renew their Strength."

"Draw nigh unto GOD and HE shall draw night unto you."

Someone who is truly seeking sanctification will give great diligence towards waiting upon The Lord.

After reading Walk in the Spirit, Walk in Power, by Dave Roberson (which is the best study on tongues that I have ever read) I decided to pray in tongues every spare moment for as long as I could. I went for about a month. As a result, some very significant events happened:

I was contributing to the Prophetic Ministry thread on this forum and I gave over 200 prophetic words to people who asked for them. All but one of them were absolutely accurate, according to the feedback I got from those who received them. This was the most amazing thing I have ever experienced.

Also, I wrote two inspirational books - one on tongues, and another on where we stand with Christ. It seemed that the words for these books bubbled up from my spirit.

I also gained permanent employment after giving up Teaching, and in a job that satisfied me just as much and at a salary level that paid our bills, plus I got tutoring opportunities that supplemented our household accounts.

I also was accepted as a leader in the prophetic ministry group that I am involved with.

I gained a new appreciation of what Jesus did for me on the Cross, and the sense of the importance of concentrating on that in my preaching so that others may know where they stand with Christ.

I need to tell about the negative things that happened.

For the first time in the 40 years that I have been praying in tongues, I was attacked with severe doubts about it. It was a real spiritual battle, and I had to go back to the Word and really make sure that the gift of tongues was true and Scriptual, which it certainly is.

It showed me that the devil hates tongues and will do all he can to talk believers out of it.

Also, my teenage daughter has been attacked with bullying, unexplained abdominal pains, had her appendix and tonsils removed, had bouts of depression, and general sickness.

As the result of me making a mission of praying in tongues regularly, there have been these determined attacks of the enemy to distract me and derail my faith in the Lord,

So, I have come to the conclusion that using the gift of tongues raises a believer to a higher spiritual level and brings him to a place where he or she becomes a real threat to the devil.

So, we can expect real blessings, power, and effectiveness as we pray in tongues on a regular basis, but we can also expect attacks and battles as the enemy senses a threat to his kingdom through our effectiveness with God in the spiritual realm.

But we need not be afraid. The Word says that 'no weapon formed against us can prosper". Let the devil do all he wants, he cannot win because he is already a defeated foe.

Thanks for sharing Oscarr and thanks for the warning, I know on several occasions I've tried to do this and failed because attacks have come, but i will pursue and as you've mentioned satan is already defeated so there is nothing to be afraid of.

Opportunities? I don't know what you mean about that. Praying in tongues is not to recieve "opportunities" from God but to allow your spirit to speak to God things that your mind doesn't know. It's to help us to grow spiritually and mentally and eventually will enrich your relationship with God in a very real way. When we don't know what to pray the spirit within us does and it prays what our natural mind cannot.

I don't pray in tongues everyday, and I know I should, but I haven't recieved any "opportunities" through praying in tongues afterwards. When I do pray in tongues I feel exillerated and refreshed, renewed, protected, etc, etc.

Speak for yourself, honeybun. I didn't say I do it, I asked how many do.

^_^^_^^_^

I was speaking for myself. If you don't, then you are missing out,.... honeybun.

Tongues are but one of the forms of prayer, but it alone will not establish a close, direct relationship with GOD. It helps, but going on in tongues for hours has it's limitations also.

I am to know HIM, talk directly to HIM, be in HIS presence, feel HIS love and power surge through me. That sort of personal relationship will only happen through seeking and waiting on HIM.

I can't say I've ever timed how long I pray in the spirit, but I have prayed in tongues for many years, sometimes praying more than other times., some days more than others, sometimes longer than others. Just like sometimes I talk more, and sometimes I'm quiet with those around me, so it is with the Lord. Sometimes I pray in English, sometimes in tongues, and sometimes I am listening.

I find the more I pray in the spirit the more I am aware of the spirit realm. I am much more aware. I find when I get to a given situation, it's like I've been there before. I find I know what to do in a time I wouldn't normally know what to do. So I'd say the Lord prepares me for what is ahead as I pray in the spirit.

I find I know what to pray when I pray in the spirit. When I go into prayer, whether it is a corporate prayer meeting or just me, if I pray in the spirit for a while, then I know exactly what to pray in English. I know what to pray for, and how to pray.

I find when I pray in the spirit and then pray out loud in English in our pre-service prayer at church Sunday morning, the Lord has me praying Pastor's message, before I ever hear it! I'm always shocked later when I hear him make different points.

It gets my mind out of this world, yet I can do it while I'm attending to other things because it doesn't require my concentration as talking does. I find it helps me if I am tempted to sin, especially sin with my tongue, saying something I shouldn't, if then I pray in tongues I gain great control.

Glory to God! You got me praying now and wanting to pray more! Bless you brother for starting this thread. May all be edified and encouraged to pray, pray, pray!

I not really referring to receiving opportunities from God, more that God will use you in certain places that maybe he couldn't of before because as you say in your post it helps to build us spiritually.

I have been reading a book about the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and since reading that it has encouraged me to speak in tongues more.. and yes there have been improvements in my spiritual life but also as Oscar said.. more spiritual attacks too..

I seem to be more open to understand the Word of God as I pray in tongues.. and am more peaceful too..

I certainly can see why satan has tried so hard to stop it..

I'm wondering if these attacks are from praying in the spirit, or because of the Word. In Mark4, Jesus said persecution and affliction arises for the Word's sake. satan wants to take God's Word out of our hearts. Wanting us to let go of it, he puts pressure on us though affliction.

It may be because of praying in the spirit, but does anyone have scripture on this, indicating it is so? I may not be seeing it. Could it not be the attack might have already been planned by the enemy and by praying in the spirit we were more equipped to deal with it? Doesn't the Holy Spirit bring to our minds all the things He has said? I see that by praying in the spirit we are tuned in and hear His Word. It rises up on the moment of need. When the attack comes, boom, there's the Word right on our tongue to make him flee, and to overcome. Which reminds me, it also helps us to submit ourselves to God.

Thank you for sharing this Cindy. I believe this may be just what I need to hear. And, thanks to the OP there for starting the thread..I hate not knowing which direction to take, and wandering aimlessly in the desert. I've been here toooooo long, and maybe this is what I need to be doing.
So thank you for this thread.
