I read the hiding place and all the other books of her a lot of times and there's one thing, besides all the others, that struck me. Before all she describes happened and long before she even became an evangelist, she was in love with Karel and they were making future plans and walking together everyday and she was very much in love. But her brother warned her that this relationship didn't have a chance, because his parents wanted somebody for him of his own upperclass and she was from the lowerclass. So he went away for a few months and she wrote him letters, which he didn't return so much, lesser and lesser, but of course that was because he was busy. Then he came back and he stood before her house to show her his fiancee, her family helped her and talked with them. She was heartbroken and lied on her bed, crying and her father came and she wished he wouldn't say something stupid like there'll come someone else, because she knew there wouldn't. What he said was this: give this love you have for this guy to the Lord and He will turn it into His perfect agape Love. Wow, this prayer I've prayed a few times in my life and it works.

She was an amazing woman. I remember thst she had a sister in the concentration camp who was the "nice" one. She loved the german guards despite their evil acts, and truly demonstrated the gospel to them....and it seems it rubbed off on Corrie, amen?

God can take ANY of us and make us love the lost as He does. He is simply waiting for us to admit we cannot and that whatever change is needed in our hearts, whatever power is needed to extricate us from the grip of self and sin, whatever stedfastness is needed to endure to the end, HE must be our supply. Moreover, He is willing and able to do so.

When we finally grasp the truth that we cannot obey as He asks, we are finally ready to see that He can, and will IN US. It is as simple as putting Him on. It is the "putting off" of ourselves, of seeing that all our righteousness is as filthy rags in His eyes, and that without Him (in us doing the work for us), we can do nothing......THAT is the hard part.

Many have stumbled over the words that Jesus spoke of the necessity of hating our own life to be able to truly find His, but no truer words were ever spoken. My fleshly man is dispicable. It is a traitor, a rebel, a proud and pleasure seeking, glory seeking person who will forever resist Jesus truly ruling over me. Everyone's flesh is.

When we finally see that....that our in us is an enemy of God, and that we are not called to "whip it into shape" over forty years, but that we are asked to reckon it dead ONCE and let God grow fruits in us as new creatures in Christ over the next forty years, all changes.

I haven't thought of Corrie in ages. Thank you, dear Messy, for the fond memory. She was an amazing woman. No, in truth, she was simply a woman, fully yielded to an amazing God.

Blessings,

Gideon

Change of heart comes from living in His presence, not saying a prayer like we're waving a magic wand.
Amen, and by corporate prayer. Gideon prayed and my pastor prayed. He said I break the heartache in Jesus Name and the Presence of the Lord was so strong, I was immediately healed and that night I had the most glorious dream in which I saw Jesus and it was really romantic, He was the kaptain of a sailboat and He had so enjoyed our trip. Amazing. I Always wanted a man, He is the best Man you can get. As a mourning woman He has called you, your Husband is your Maker, don't know the tekst in English.
God bless

After the war, she traveled to 60 different countries, preaching, and through her, many people became Christians. In 1977, Corrie, then 85 years old, moved to Placentia, California. In 1978, she suffered two strokes, the first rendering her unable to speak, and the second resulting in paralysis. She lived as an invalid for the remaining five years of her life, dying on her 91st birthday (April 15, 1983) following a third stroke.

So sobering...do what you can whilst you have strength folks.

Yes Amen and even with those strokes she was a witness and people could see His love in her, I read somewhere.

I wish you had called this 'corrie ten boom and her boyfriend', the word 'lover' emits some connotations that sound negative... some, including me, oftentimes only read the title of the thread...

this woman was a very godly person... and her reputation as a person of the Lord should be protected...

Yes, stupid of me, of course. I think that's because I'm Dutch, it doesn't sound that way to me, I used the term because she was in love with him.
