Constipation
Friday, January 12, 2007, 3:02 p.m.

Friday, January 12, 11:24 a.m. – I slept 7.5 hours all in a row – Hooray! I had a dream, but all I remember of the dream is that I was constipated for awhile and while Rick and I were lying down to sleep, I told Rick about my constipation. Then, I drank something, and all of a sudden I had a huge bowel movement while I was still in bed – gross, I know. I immediately told Rick about it, I was so excited! And, I felt better, too! J End.

This is not unusual for me to have a dream kind of like this, but it did have this feeling as though it had spiritual application. I was sure, if it did, the Lord would show me. I asked the Lord what was on his mind – I said, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” Then I read Col. 1:24-29:

Now I rejoice in what was suffered for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church. qvb://0/anchor/2625I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness—qvb://0/anchor/2726the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. qvb://0/anchor/2827To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

qvb://0/anchor/2928We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. qvb://0/anchor/3029To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me.

NIV Commentary: fill up… what is still lacking does not mean that there was a deficiency in the atoning sacrifice of Christ. Rather, it means that Paul suffered afflictions because he was preaching the good news of Christ’s atonement. Christ suffered on the cross to atone for sin, and Paul filled up Christ’s afflictions by experiencing the added sufferings necessary to carry this good news to a lost world. To present… the word of God in its fullness. The meaning seems to be that the word of God is brought to completion, i.e., to its intended purpose, only when it is proclaimed. Paul’s commission to bring the word to completion, therefore, required him to make the word of God heard… The Christian mystery is not secret knowledge for a few. It is a revelation of divine truths – once hidden but now openly proclaimed

Ok, I admit it! I am human!! Sometimes I really struggle with these dreams and visions and whether or not I should share them. Every now and then I just get plain tired. At times I’ll wonder whether or not they are making a difference. I can almost hear the sounds of people’s voices in my head saying, “Oh no, not another e-mail from Sue Love or another post from Christ’s Free Servant (my screen name).” I tend to be an “anal” – no pun intended – person by nature. I like things all neat and packaged and planned out and I do sometimes try to bring an end to it all thinking certainly this last one was enough. As I was thinking about this last comment, the Lord reminded me of the dream he gave me yesterday:

Thursday, Jan. 11, 10:37 p.m. - I took a nap this afternoon for an hour, between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., and then I woke out of a dream. All I remember is that I was walking over to the door to turn the dead-bolt lock to lock the door when all of a sudden someone from the other side of the door pushed it open, keeping me from locking it. I looked, and there stood a young boy, a child, with an open umbrella in his hand, only he was holding it open in front of him as though it were a shield and I had the feeling he had a weapon underneath it that he intended to use. There was a sense of evil coming from the other side of the door, yet I was not afraid. He just stood there and so did I and neither of us said a word. End. Then, I woke up.

The Lord showed me through his word yesterday that the child was him and that the umbrella he was holding out in front of him was the gospel and I was trying to “lock the door” but he pushed the door open. I was trying to determine the end of these visions and dreams; these practical applications of Biblical truth as found in God’s Holy Word, the Bible. Lest you think at this moment that I am comparing them to the word of God, I am not. Nonetheless, I do believe they are God’s revelations of his practical applications of his divine truth as revealed in his Holy Word, the Bible, for his church today. They are not exclusive to me, however. All of us have the truth of God’s word living in us if we are his children and we each have a responsibility to proclaim the truths (and practical applications as he gives them to us) of his Word to others in the hope that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. This is the intended goal!

I got God’s point. When the word of God remains inside me and I don’t share it, I get constipated. The word of God is brought to completion, i.e., to its intended purpose, only when it is proclaimed. It requires me to make the word of God heard – to openly proclaim its truths. The constipation also describes how we will or may suffer persecution, rejection, misunderstanding, sleepless nights, etc. for the sake of the gospel, and we need to continue in our faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel, and we need to make the word of God heard and to openly proclaim its truths, no matter how tired we get or what other people think about us or what we think they are thinking about us. We have to not “lock the door” to God’s truths, i.e. the gospel, or we will get constipated. The only way we will have a “movement” is if we give it out.
