hey

i broke a promise to God. i feel so bad and i've asked for forgiveness. I'm relatively new christian (6 months) so if we do a major sin (like break a promise) is God gona get mad with me? Some people say that Jesus will forgive me straight away and forget about it...

But how can that be? If i was Jesus i'd be angry at least for a short while. I can't understand why God would want to have a relationship with me. Also...is it possible to live life without ever sinning again? Even if humans do alot of good...are we still basically evil and sinning creatures? Where saints and martyers sinners once they asked Jesus to forgive them? And why are babies sinners? (i've been taught that even babies are sinners!). I'm struggling with the sin aspect...i beat myself up so much about it. The crazy thing is I want Jesus more than anything else in the whole world and in the face of massive temptation and physical irritation i go and break the promise i made to God. I don't want to be a sinner and I want to "die" and let Jesus live in me 100%. Ever since letting Jesus in my life I have changed alot and for the better. It just hurts me that i'm capable of sin still.

I don't wana sin no more. I don't like it because it hurts Jesus whom i love. I don't know what to do and actually feel like it'd be better if God punished me. The whole concept of Jesus forgiving me and others is so alien to me and I can't get my head around it.

Sorry for rambling.

Dear Myhomiesneedjesus

It will really help you to read the New Testament and get an understanding what the CHRISTIAN FAITH is all about.

You will find that GOD doesn't want you to be sinless. For if we become Sinless we would no longer need JESUS in our lives.

There is another reason. If you were to ever become sinless your nose would reach the sky and you would lose compassion for the ones that need help the most.

GOD knows our heart and you really need to try to keep your promises if possible. Sometimes we promise things we are not 100% able to keep. This is another very good reason to get into GOD'S WORD.

I read from both the King James Version and Catholic Bible. But I would really recommend you READ the Books of Sirach, Wisdom, and Proverbs found in the Catholic Bible. These are not stories. They are written so that you can have the best and most successful life ever.
Pray for WISDOM and UNDERSTANDING. This comes ONLY from GOD. If you follow these instructions and put them into action in your life you will become a changed person. GOD guarantees it.

ALWAYS REMEMBER:

“ Believe “ in Greek is a verb and has three components which are: hearing, accepting, and then " ACTING " upon that which you have accepted. X Even though you can't see him, GOD is there!!! O ( click on the x and drag to the O ) ( then see who is with you ) steven

Psalm 103:12
As far as the east is from the west,So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

You realized that what you did was wrong, you repented, brush yourself off and seek after Christ with all of your heart. He is your righteousness. There is nothing that you can to do add to your salvation. All you have to do is believe in Him. You do that now. I know that it is so hard to grasp how Christ could forgive us. Without Him bearing our sins on the cross, we would be filthy rags to God, but because of the blood of Jesus Christ, we are righteous in God's eyes. Just know that it is so true. Just believe that He has forgiven you. Now walk in it. Walk in that forgiveness.

If you are in fellowship with other believers that can hold you accountable and you them, then that is awesome, but if you aren't, then get there. This helps so much! It has helped me. Spend time in prayer with these people, have Bible studies, and on your own time, spend time before the Lord. You will see more of a change. Others will see this change and over time you will get to know how Jesus can forgive you and forgive the rest of the world. There is such a freedom in knowing this.

God Bless you in this awesome journey that you are on. It is an awesome one! Keep letting the light of Jesus shine through you.

My brother, I admire your desire to do right by God. Your heart is in the right place and that is truly what the Lord is looking at.

Proverbs says that a just man falls seven times and gets back up again. The mistakes that you make are not what is important, but whether or not you are willing to get up and try it again.

As a CHRISTian, you are now in Christ and the Bible says that you are no longer under any condemnation, but are considered to be a true child of God. Like a good Father, He is understanding, patient, and extremely slow to anger.

As far as being capable of leading a sinless life while in the flesh, it is impossible. Even Paul (who wrote a good majority of the New Testament and was one of the main people God used to bring the Gospel to those who were not Jewish born) said that he was imperfect. He made mention of pursuing the goal, running the race, but never did he once say (in all his years of being close to God) he had arrived.

What is most important for you to concentrate on right now is building your faith up in the Most High. Simply put, trust in Him and you will not be disappointed.

Again, it just overjoys me to see your desire to do what's right in God's eyes. A big thumbs up to you.

***EDIT: Changed 'use' to 'see' in that last line. My mistake.

Hey mate.

1. You made a promise to God and you broke it. So did I, so did Peter (denied Jesus 3 times after vowing he would not desert him).

That's why God tells us not to swear (make a vow, not the profanity :)) over heaven or on earth. Let our yes be yes and no be no.

Confess your sin and God will be just to forgive you. Period. Full stop. Case closed. Get over it or you'll eat yourself up and go totally nuts.

2. So you truely got saved. Will you sin? Yes.

'Oh but that means I'm a false christian and I'm not going to heaven!'

No. There's a difference. A true christian, a genuine convert sins against his will because he's a new creation. How do you know? Firstly you don't want to sin. Secondly your flesh will battle against your renewed spirit. You'll be fighting against it, finding ways to stop sinning. That is one of the earmarks of being a christian.

'What do I do if I sin?"

A person gets saved and repents when he turns to God. As you live your life, you will fall into sin and not dive into sin. If you do sin, simply go back to God, confess your sin and He will forgive you.

3. What's that? Still not sure your saved?

Get saved today and be done with it. Otherwise go www.wayofthemasterradio.com and scroll down and listen to the audio tape there.

4. Why are you still here? Refer to 1.

You probably are struggling with a sexual issue? God is not going to wipe you out over that I can assure you.

You seem never to have been given the real basis of our relationship with God. God is not an angry judge but a loving father. Through Jesus He has provided away for imperfect people to have a relationship with the Godhead. It's the security of God's acceptance of us that forms the confidence we have in our relationship with Him, and nothing else.

Gee... it sounds like you've been raked over the coals with doctrine (no offense to anyone intended).

I firmly believe that God is a God of grace and mercy and love. I believe he knows our failures from the moment we are created and loved us and chose us anyway. I believe that it is through your relationship with him that you will be obedient, not because you try to be (it will be in your nature to do the right thing, and you won't have to try). I believe that Jesus' blood covered us from the minute we were saved, and our past and future sins are covered and therefore, already forgiven.

As your relationship with Christ grows you will have less trouble (that is not to say you wont' have any, because we are not perfect beings). Listening to your inner voice telling you that what you are doing is wrong is a step. You know when you are about to do wrong 90% of the time. Just ask God for his help. He will always be there.

As for past sin... We hurt him, but he forgives and has already forgiven.

Hope this helps. :)

You are sensing what is missing in a lot of teachings -- the repentance. God does approve of repentance, but also knows how continued guilt can drive us mad.

If you choose not to be forgiven, then what is His mercy for? Accept the gift in gratefulness, and move forward.

In 1 John 1 it says that if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness. So, take him at his word and believe that if you have confessed your broken promise he is faithful to always keep his.

God forgives you and no he will not punish you. You need to forgive yourself. I am keeping you in my prayers. All God ask for us to be real with him and we all at times sin. We have a loving God who will will forgive us when we are willing to turn away from the sin.

i broke a promise to God.
Our Lord Jesus Christ knows your heart, and knows that when you make a promise with HIM that you are human and that you will break it at sometime or another.

But, just go back to HIM and confess and repent your sin, and HE will forgive you. The most important part of the forgiveness, is for you to forgiven yourself and not feel guilty or ashame.
i feel so bad and i've asked for forgiveness. I'm relatively new christian (6 months) so if we do a major sin (like break a promise) is God gona get mad with me?
It's all answered above. The only thing that happens is that you give Satan and his forces legal right to attack you.
Some people say that Jesus will forgive me straight away and forget about it...
Yep, HE forgives and remembers no more!
But how can that be?
Simple, HE is our Almighty God!
If i was Jesus i'd be angry at least for a short while.
Read Matthew 5:22 in the KJV, about being angry "without a cause". If you read the NIV, they have removed that phrase, which then makes all anger a sin. Not right, not of God's Inspired Word the KJV, and the Geneva Bible 1599.
I can't understand why God would want to have a relationship with me.
He love you mate, you begin your relationship with HIM and you will soon see how powerful and loving HE is.
Also...is it possible to live life without ever sinning again?
When you find that, let me know!
Even if humans do alot of good...are we still basically evil and sinning creatures?
Nah mate, you just don't worry about that non-essential stuff. You just get yourself right with our Lord Jesus Christ, study and practice the fruit of the Spirit, such as love, peace, joy, goodness, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, selfcontrol and patience.

Work from the bottom up and you will fulfill all of those fruit in time.

Be Christcentred and be active in Lordship and your life will fall into place, and into HIS Arms.
Where saints and martyers sinners once they asked Jesus to forgive them? And why are babies sinners? (i've been taught that even babies are sinners!).
My dear brother, you are 18 years of age, and all you have to do is bring our Lord Jesus Christ into your life, confess and repent all you past and present sins, and forgiven all those people who have hurt, offended, abused, and rejected you, and then love them and you will be fulfilling HIS Commands.
I'm struggling with the sin aspect...i beat myself up so much about it.
Just keep confessing and repenting. Now if you are struggling with a habitual sin, then you need to talk to a good God-anointed Christian counsellor and work through your problems. They will help you to bind your strongmen and break down the walls of your strongholds, and then you will see the "LIGHT".
The crazy thing is I want Jesus more than anything else in the whole world and in the face of massive temptation and physical irritation i go and break the promise i made to God.
Our Lord said to His followers to forgiven seven times seventy, so would you say that if HE said that, then HE would do the same for you.

Just keep on confessing and repenting and fighting a good fight of faith.
I don't want to be a sinner and I want to "die" and let Jesus live in me 100%.
He is right now, because if HE wasn't you wouldn't be posting on the forum right now.
Ever since letting Jesus in my life I have changed alot and for the better.
We all do mate, so keep on fighting for your freedom in Christ and you will conquer and overcome all your problems as you get closer to our Lord Jesus Christ by submission and then the enemy and his forces will flee.
It just hurts me that i'm capable of sin still.
Yep, and our Lord is weeping with you, and HIS arms are around you right now as you read what I am writing.
I don't wana sin no more. I don't like it because it hurts Jesus whom i love.
The hurt is coming from the enemy and his forces, they are the tormentors. Jesus love you as well. HIS LOVE ENDURES FOREVER, and love never fails.
I don't know what to do and actually feel like it'd be better if God punished me.
You are punishing yourself and giving the enemy the legal right to torment you.
The whole concept of Jesus forgiving me and others is so alien to me and I can't get my head around it.
Don't get your head round it because that is Satan's area, get it into your heart, your spiritual mind. Once you work from the mind that becomes a battleground.
Sorry for rambling.
Nah, your not rambling, you are talking truth and commonsense.

Love in Christ

Really good responses from Elijah2 for you.

I just want to re-iterate what many have said already and that is we are going to sin, and it's not a good idea to make promises to God, for some reason that just sets us up for failure.

You have a heart for the Lord, I can tell you love Jesus and the Lord loves a contrite spirit, so just accept His forgiveness, if you don't forgive yourself then you are saying Jesus' sacrifice is not enough for you. Accept God's grace and move on. If you think you might need help with repeated sin, addiction, then ask for it, get counsel.

I don't believe God punishes, but he does allow consequences of our sin to take their course in our life if need be. We are not necessarily let off the hook, just because we confess and repent. God still loves us, yes, but if we have sinned then the deed has been done, and the course of events are set in motion. We can certainly pray for mercy and help for whatever adversity we may face.

And I think I have shared with you before, it is so important to avoid situations and places and certain people where you know temptation is going to stare you in the face, especially when we are still very newly saved, a baby Christian.
We cannot fight the enemy on our own. You can't be a lone ranger Christian. We need fellowship with other believers. If you don't have any Christian friends, then start praying to the Lord to send some your way. He will.

I am praying for you dear one. You can pm if you wish, it's up to you.

I myself have a hard time keeping my promises to God.

What I would do is confess all your known sins and iniquities (yes all of them) then all others you do remember if any.

Then I would ask God The Father through Jesus Christ and his Holy Spirit to help you say promises you can keep.

Such as for example a clean home don't get too quick into making promises (I did at my apartment) atleast not by yourself unless you know you can keep them.

But generally speaking talk to God and whatever The Lord puts on your heart say clean in up to 8 days then it'll be easier to keep.

I hope this helps in your walk with Christ and God Bless you.

I know sometimes things change, friends come and go. Pray and ask the Lord to send you new Christian friends, good ones who will be great accountability partners. Ones who you can pray with, talk about Jesus with, enjoy fellowship etc....

Ephesians 6:10 tells us about how we must put our Armour of God on. I encourage you to read this and take it to heart, especially putting on the sword of the Spirit. The Word of God. We must read the bible. We are in a spiritual battle, it's harder to fight without the Word of God on our hearts and minds. Without it we are more susceptable to be tricked by the devil and indulge in sin.

A prayer for you.

Father God I ask you to send Christian brothers and sisters into MHNJ Life. I pray you will bless him with a good network of friends who will encourage him in his walk with you Lord. I pray for you Lord to give MHNJ the desire to read your Word with an understanding and apply it to His life. I praise and thank you God for your HOly Word. Thank you God for saving and loving this young man, I ask you to protect him from harm, by the blood of Jesus, draw MHNJ close to you Lord, direct his path straight and always according to your will Lord. In jesus' name I pray.
