Hello everyone,

I decided to join my church's first adult Christmas choir this year. I have been in a Christmas choir before, but I didn't have this experience before.

We are supposed to move our arms during one of the songs and I ended up moving mine too fast which inspired our choir director to record us, so that we could see what we looked like. I felt like she may have been making fun of me.

The day of our first choir performance which was yesterday the choir director texted me saying that a few other singers noticed that I wasn't singing the right section. Which this had me thinking that the other singers have been talking about me behind my back. She then proceeded to ask me to record myself singing which is humiliating. After hearing me sing, she told me that I wasn't singing the right section which parts of the songs for us to sing had been changed. She acted like she wasn't sure what she wanted to do with me. Her solution that she came up with was for me to sing quietly during one of the songs and mouth the high notes.

I thought that the point of this Christmas choir was to have a posture of worship, not how well we can perform. I already know that I'm not a good singer and to give me a scare like that the day of the performance after I already invited my family and friends didn't seem right either. I also had to audition for this choir and she picked me. I feel like I am experiencing church hurt over this and I am thinking of not joining my church's Christmas choir next year if they have one.

You've got a year to cool off and consider what you do next time. I wouldn't make a hasty decision at this stage.

In the meantime maybe get some lessons if you think you need to improve and just practice when you can. Put it on the backburner for the time being.

Agreed.

Also, you can talk to her privately if you wish about your concerns.
