I'm looking for recommendations for good Christian romance authors/books.

It seems all the books I find are heavy ones, with major themes of betrayal and forgiveness and such. Or they are silly with insipid characters who have lots of angst about stupid stuff, or who simplistically say a one sentence prayer once and it magically solves all the world's problems forever. I guess I'm looking for a happy medium - realistic people with realistic issues without being gut wrenching who get their happily ever after. Is there such a thing?

Hi Odetta,

I think Jan Karon's Mitford series comes under the category of romantic Christian fiction. Her books are a lovely, down to earth read about the people of Mitford, a fictional town, probably in North Carolina. The main romance is between the rector of the Episcopalian church, a bachelor in his 60s and his new neighbour.

Have you tried Googling Christian romance books?

Hi Odetta, I personally like Francine Rivers' books. Her "Mark of the Lion" series was especially good :)

I am also hosting a giveaway on my blog this week - prize includes Christian romance novels from Tyndale and Harvest House publishers.

You might want to check out and enter in the giveaway here - www[dot]godlywomanhood[dot]com

Blessings,

I hadn't thought of this series, probably because I was thinking of it as Christian historical fiction, but yes it would come under romantic fiction as well and it's brilliant.

Another great book by Francine Rivers is Redeeming Love - beautiful.

I know of a Christian mystery/romance/thriller novel its called The Chase by Susan Wales and Robin Shope. You may like it it depends on your tastes. I know I enjoyed it. The only other one I liked is called Song Of Erin by B.J Hoff. Its long but its good. And the coolest part is in it there is more then one romance going on there are many couples in it and its really good.

I just read Seeking Solace by Christina Robbins. It is a new Christian romance and think it might fit what you are looking for in a book. It wasn't terribly filled with angst, and it wasn't insipid or silly either. The characters are well developed, and I enjoyed the realism in the story. I am new to this forum so I can't post a link, but I downloaded it from Amazon.

That's funny - I've already read all of Jan Karon's books! They were great.

I'll try googling.

I haven't read all of them yet, but my sister has the Mitford series in a boxed set and has promised to lend them to me, which is great.

I'm a big reader, but the only thing I've ever read that I might put into the Romance category is Linda Windsor's Brides of Alba series. It's very historical, is 'heavy' on the romance aspects, but it's also got prophecies, battles, assassinations, sorcery, swordfights, etc. It's a pretty fun series.

I am not yet allowed to post links, so you'll have to look it up on goodreads or whatever site you use to find books. Book one is called "The Healer", and it's written by "Linda Windsor".
