Charlotte seems like an even cooler place to visit now and one could spend a week or two making the rounds
Looking into how Orthodoxy has grown in Charlotte (where my dear sister lived), I was glad she spoke to me on St. Michael Eritrean. This event was at her (@Thekla) old parish - St. Nektarios GO Church
(St. Nektarios hosted the Armenian Orthodox before their parish was established, and seems to have hosted the Eritreans; Holy Trinity included Ethiopian families with a blessing from their bishops attend; when the numbers of Ethiopians grew, the AHEPA loaned their AHEPA house for services). Just was lovely to listen and watch, but the added layer of loveliness seeing the old fellowship hall where her daughter was baptized and the temple as well, and filled with such song:
If anyone makes it up to Charlotte sometime, it's a nice place to check out. The Ethiopians are in Charlotte as well. Planning on making a trip to visit Charlotte some time and make the rounds of so many parishes - Armenian, Coptic, Ethiopian, Eritrean, Greek (2), and Russian. There were Serbian families my friend (Antiochian Orthodox) worked with before at her parish and there is now also a Serbian parish in Charlotte. The parishes there (as you can see) have good relationships across jurisdictions
of course you will meet some who don't approve, but the general tenor of things is the sort of cooperation and mutual support that is evidenced in the hosting of, for example, the Eritreans in a Greek church.
There's also a Malankara Orthodox parish there too
Mr. Chacko George and brothers Shawn Shaji and Subin Shaji were ordained to the order of Deacon (Qoruyo) by the Archbishop and Patriarchal Vicar of the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in North America, His Eminence Mor Titus Yeldho at the St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday, February 19th, 2011.
