Could you name a few of them?
This is all part and parcel of the ghetto mentality far too many Catholics have.
The idea seems to be that the culture is a ravening wolf wanting to destroy us. This view has far more to do with Protestant Fundamentalism than with Catholicism.
Our church has always been able to see in the culture what is best and most beautiful though it has often shown itself disinclined to accept criticism from any quarter.
And this has always puzzled me. Didn't Our Lord say that the gates of hell shall not prevail against her?
He didn't say they might not prevail or that they won't prevail as long as everybody stays in line and never asks questions.
And besides, people really should be less willing to be told what to read and what not to read. The index is gone.
Read everything critically and I think you will find that magazines like "America", while certainly outside the comfort zone of most "traditionalists", are certainly not fostering lies or leading believers astray or "tearing down the faith of believers."
It's certainly been the case for me. My faith is as strong as it has ever been and I now have the added advantage of having exercised my BS-detector to such a degree that very little ever gets past it.
Catholics certainly do have a beautiful understanding of accepting the truth in any given culture and showing how it reflects the Gospel. But that's not what's being talked about here. Protinus advocated publications that specifically teach lies. Some of them, such as America, do have some worthwhile content. Nonetheless, America is still ripe with problematic content as well. Other publications, such as the one advocating the ordination of priestesses, are useless other than as material for pointing out logical fallacy, historical error, and the like (and also maybe if you run out of toilet paper).
Well, I am probably too liberal for you even though I am far from being an actual liberal.
I don't believe in ordaining women but I think Pastor Aeternus was ill-advised.
Here is a thread I started a few weeks ago with a little more detail of some of the weird stuff I believe.

Latin Mass Magazine - http://www.latinmassmagazine.com/
Magazine for those who prefer traditional conservative liturgy -- and still in communion with the Holy Father!! Good for those of you who are interested in authentic Vatican II liturgy that uses Latin, or who attend indult Tridentine Masses and want a good magazine that is not schismatic.
Woah, it's take on the Wanderer is completely wrong. While there are some things in the Wanderer that I don't agree with politically, it is VERY loyal to the Church. Fr. Zuhlsdorf, Fr. Euteneuer, and Fr. Altier have regular columns in there, they include the texts of the Holy Father's weekly audiences and other documents and speeches which he gives. I have seen nothing in there that is not loyal to Rome, otherwise I agree with the list above.
EXCELLENT Magazine! Alot of incredible historical articles in it as well.
