When I was younger, I used to do a lot of praying inside my head.....sort of "thought prayers".......

That was because I believed that I could merely think something and God would automatically know what I was thinking......

So, in my mind, a "thought prayer" was as good as a spoken-out-loud prayer......

But, as I have gotten older, I have found myself wondering about this.......

Is a "thought prayer" as good as a spoken-out-loud prayer??

Can God "hear" me praying inside my own head??

Or do we need to pray out loud in order for God to hear us??

He knows what we're thinking about so He would know if we're praying :)

I'm reminded of the scripture that says, "never cease praying". How do we do that? We can't always pray out loud because certain situations wouldn't be appropriate, so we can pray in our minds instead and we can, this way, pray continually as the Bible says.

Just my two cents :)

Dear Tim Myers. God made us in His image, and we may be sure that God knows all our thoughts and wishes, we may be SURE,Tim. God will know when you talk to Him in your mind, and God will know when you talk to Him in prayers. God will also know how sincerely we love Him and trust Him, and how important God is to us. God wants our love, freely given and completely sincere and pure. The love we have for our neighbour needs some effort, mere words in one`s mind will not help us to love others as we love ourselves. God wants us to show our love in words and deeds, Christians are our Lord`s representatives, and God wants us to let our neighbour know. I say this with love, Tim. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

I also did this when I was younger..... actually I still do it now.

I think God knows everything and so knows our thoughts. Also if thoughts can be sins (lust, envy) then God wouldn't be a just Judge if He didn't have all the evidence.

Are you implying that God is NOT omnipotent? I've always assumed that God can do whatever he pleases...

If God is who we believe him, he knows our every act, thought, etc...

Just think, before God ever created this earth he already knew the every thought, actions and prayer of every person ever born. Not only that, he knew his every response to every prayer and how you would react. In fact, all this info would have been constant in God's being or mind for all eternity past. It's like the complete movie for every being has already taken place in God's mind, we're just living what has been constant in him for eternity.

Hard to imagine endless trillions of processes being constant in ones being at all times and in all times. Imagine as a human trying to process trillions of thoughts in the single moment every second, but to God all combined is somehow simple constant total knowledge.

Two cents buys eternal life these days ...
especially when its all youve got [to say].

a second question might be ... can the d-evil read your mind ?

0n the one hand the bible says to pray
on the other it says god already knows your needs before you ask
ive found evidence for both sides

god certainly reads minds, but then some minds are filled with filth
and would be ugly to read, also the idea that asking is ok
[as the bible says] could be sensed as insulting ...

if i already know your needs desires and capacity to recieve
and you ask me, perhaps repeatedly this could be harrassing
if i have other things to focus on

the bible says there will come a day when the earth will be filled with the knowledge of god
as the oceans are filled with water, and there will be no need for any man to turn to his brother and sat
''know the lord'' because everyone will know

i personally believe that day came a long time ago
which means ppl can go on with their lives and enjoy them
without being consumed with religiousity

the best way to give thanks to god for life is to enjoy it
if i had a child and gave a gift, seeing the child enjoy it would be my thanks

When Nehemiah was before the king, do you suppose he fell to his knees and prayed aloud before answer his highness' question?
Nehemiah 2
1 And it came about in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, that wine was before him, and I took up the wine and gave it to the king. Now I had not been sad in his presence.
2 So the king said to me, "Why is your face sad though you are not sick ? This is nothing but sadness of heart." Then I was very much afraid.
3 I said to the king, "Let the king live forever. Why should my face not be sad when the city, the place of my fathers' tombs, lies desolate and its gates have been consumed by fire ?"
4 Then the king said to me, "What would you request ?" So I prayed to the God of heaven.
5 I said to the king, "If it please the king, and if your servant has found favor before you, send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers' tombs, that I may rebuild it."
Nehemiah let a pray zip through his head and up to God before answering. It would have been awkward to speak aloud a formal prayer when the king was sitting there waiting for an answer. This is biblical proof that our prayers do not have to be aloud, particularly in a situation such as Nehemiah found himself.

God surely can hear what we think in our minds and in our hearts, and we can communicate with him from within our minds and/or hearts, even in prayer, however it does show more devotion and zeal to pray speaking to God out loud, I'm not quite sure why, but that's just the way I feel, because when we praise God, it's better to sing praises to him with our voices than from within our minds.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. -Ephesians 6:18

But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. -Jude 1:20

Heres a few verses on our thoughts, imaginations also

Psalm 94:11 The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity

Gen 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Ezek 8:12 Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, The LORD seeth us not; the LORD hath forsaken the earth.

Mat 9:4 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

1Ch 28:9 And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.

2Cr 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

2Cr 4:2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

Renouncing "hidden things" of dishonesty pertains to what we do "in the dark" or in the chamber of our imaginary, where they said, "He seeth not".

He knows the secrets of men, cant get one past God lol

That presumes that God pleases to read everybody's mind.

It would be quite understandable if he preferred not to, all things considered.

God is not an outsider who needs external stimuli to perceive. God is God. Present in and through all things.

I wouldn't say God can "read our minds", that places God in the place of an alien being requiring external stimuli; rather, God knows our thoughts because He is ever-and-always Present.

this quest`i`on

reminds me of a song

well the devil reads your mind like a preacher reads the bible
better find out what the lord's got in store for your survival

the correct answer is that anybody can read anybody's mind
its an acquired art
the CIA did many experiments in telepathy
back in the 1950s

studying this field will help greatly in quest of this subject

demons read minds
angels
and people too
