My wife is a fan, though personally I don't find her much of a singer. Her range seems rather small for a female singer. I don't know if she writes her own lyrics, but there's definitely a "dirty" vibe to some of her songs...which I'm not really sure if it's a reflection of her as an artist or just there for shock value. I can see why some christians would be offended by some of her songs.

That said, I really don't understand why some christians look at various types of art as "unacceptable" for consumption. It's art...it doesn't represent the audience, it represents the artist. All that the art I have a taste for says about me is...well...what kind of art I have a taste for. Someone who listens to a song about suicide, for example, isn't necessarily depressed or suicidal. There may be aspects to the song that have nothing to do with subject or theme that the listener appreciates. The same can be said of any medium...especially popular ones like movies and television and books. I enjoy a wide range of literature, but I happen to be currently reading a fantasy novel...it doesn't mean I'm some sort of escapist who's in denial of reality.

I think once you let go of preconceived notions about what art is acceptable and unacceptable and simply look at it all as "art" and a reflection of the artist and not yourself...your world becomes much richer and more open.

The filter I use for what I take into my mind is simply my intent and their intent. Some of her songs are deliberately vulgar and void of anything of substance, but others are contemplative and beautiful. I buy songs individually. I've also been to a few of her concerts and thought she was charismatic, enchanting, and a fun performer. I felt no prickles of guilt about being there as a Christian. I'm a dancer and I've also loved performing to some of her songs.

Thanks but the thing is I know she can be "vulgar" but I don't consider it vulgar I consider it art should I feel bad for not giving a crap

Something being 'art' should not be a free pass for it being vulgar or trash.

But being art, really art, can make vulgarity a good thing. Done well vulgar lyrics can expose vulgar reality, it can open peoples eyes to a reality they have been blissfully not seeing. At its best it can both open eyes and motivate action.

Fools however seem unable to see past the 'dirty words' to anything deeper. (Sophisticated fools of a different bent see deep meanings where none exist).

You seem to be falling into one of todays traps. Vulgar usually implies bad. So vulgar has come to in some eyes men bad. That is false. It is merely vulgar, and sometimes earthy talk is neutral or even good. You should still consider it vulgar, but you should not jump to thinking that means it is bad.

Whatever you do, don't listen to a video of her singing live.

I've been to several of her live performances - at Coachella, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, and thought she had a dynamic stage presence and sounded fantastic. My annoyance is actually with the fans, the majority of whom hold up their phones throughout the entire concert to record the same videos as everyone else, when there's a professional videographer who is also filming and will upload everything to YouTube with much better quality. It feels like people watch things through their iPhones rather than directly with their eyes.

Never heard of her so just checked out youtube. Not my cup of tea  ... but with over 137 million hits on the first song a lot of people obviously do not agree with me.

She's hypnotic and alluring like a siren call to the damned.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bag1gUxuU0g

There is a common theme about dying in some songs.

I don't understand it but as simple as I am I see a pattern that could be unhealthy.

When I was a child an older man who was a failed Lutheran Pastor told me we don't study demonology because we are interested in it. We learn about it to recognize it and fight it with God.

Death doesn't have to be morbid it can be beautiful death can also be metaphoric Lana is a professing Christian I don't see the problem with sad songs of loss and pain they can be gorgeous and truly meaningful

And why pray tell not
Not something or someone I'd consider particularly Christian, much less edifying.
And why pray tell not
if the bible says u Will no them by there fruits then why don't we look at the fact that she builds houses on Indian reservations and loves to help out at homeless shelters and she was doing this long before she rose to stardom so it's not just some act she really is a fantastic human being why shouldn't we believe she follows Christ

Lots of people do good that don't know Christ or are poor Christians.

By their fruits indeed. So vulgar lyrics and immodest images of her plastered on magazine covers etc, hardly seems edifying to me.
