Body Piercing

I hate to give you some bad news but the Bible says that it is not right. Examples of what the bible says: Leviticus 19:28 and 1 cor. 19-20 says that the your body is themple of the Holy Spirit. I personally feel that it is your choice and no one can make it for you. If you are being convicted of it then maybe it's not a good idea to keep it.

Yes, our body is a temple. How is piercing harming the temple? Overeating destroys the temple, smoking cigarettes, drinking booze, taking drugs, etc. Now, the only relevant verse of Scripture that I feel could be used again body piercing is in the Old Testament where it says not to adorn your body. Now, we all know we're no longer under the Law but under Grace. Just as the Laws governing what to eat were abolished with Christ's death and resurrection, same goes with the OT Law concerning adorning your body.

If you are being convicted of it then maybe it's not a good idea to keep it.
Oh trust me, if I feel convicted I will take it out; however, I'm just looking for general opinions.

Jacob, thanks for your help. She is doing a sea salt soak twice a day and cleans it in the shower with antibacterial soap, but a piercer told her recently not to do the salt soaks anymore.

I have two peirces in my left ear and one in my right. There is nothing in Catholic moral theology which condemns peircing or body art, although as with everything, moderation is a good principle to go by, so you don't go off the deep end and wind up with a bone through your nose and wooden disks inserted into your lips like an African tribesman, or literally covered from head to toe in tattoos like a 3rd-century BC Pictish warrior.

I've had around 15 piercings so I get that question all the time.

For one when people quote Lev. 19:28 I just tell them to read to whole chapter. There are other verses in Lev. that talk about not wearing clothes made of two different fabrics and not cutting the hair around your ears. A whole bunch of stuff that doesnt apply anymore because of Christ.

And when people tell me that my body is a temple. I just tell them that I'm decorating it and that it doesnt cause any harm so why not.

I have my belly button pierced, one piercing in each ear, and I had my nipples pierced on a dare, but they have since closed up. I don't see a problem with it, I don't even think about my belly button piercing anymore, I don't ever change it, but then again its 33 degrees outside right now and nobody except my fiance will be seeing my belly for a few months.

I agree with the majority. Levitical law is old news due to Christ's saving grace. Piercings are great and can be very attractive; Wolesley had it right when he said moderation is the key.

God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving!
I personally do not think you can call the law "old news". It is the word of God, and God's word does not change. The purpose of the law is that it reveals sin, it did then, and it still does today. Christ himself said that he came not to do away with the law, but fufill it. Just because Christ extends us mercy, does not mean we have the freedom to do whatever we want.

If you want some new testament. 1Th 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. Sorry, but when I think of body piercing I do not think of someone sitting in the Amen corner at church.

Ask yourself this question. What would Jesus do? Would Jesus get a naval ring or his tounge pierced? Personally I don't think so. Being a Christian means to be Christ like. So we are to be like Christ.

Just my .02, but it is between you and God.

I find that most of the time that scripture is used about "not giving the appearance of evil", it can be paraphrased as "don't do anything that offends the delicate sensibilities of those who consider themselves righteous." NOT knocking you specificially, mrstace, but I don't think piercings or indeed a lot of things "give the appearance of evil". Give the appearance of someone who has a high pain threshold and an aesthetic preference I don't have, yes. But evil of what sort? I hardly think piercings would serve as a stumbling block to non-Christians. And I think far too many Christians call things stumbling blocks when they're really just a distraction -- and in most cases, the distraction isn't the alleged "stumbling block", it's the reaction of hypersensitive Christians.
