I used to read my bible in the bathroom, sitting on, well you get the picture.

I started thinking it was disrespectful of me to do that. So about 5 or 6 years ago, I stopped. Eventually, I got out of the habit of reading the bible at all.

In church on Sunday, the pastor:preach: was talking about how important it was to get into the Word and get the Word into us on a daily basis. And as an illustration he mentioned a discussion he had with someone who was very busy and had no time for bible reading. Pastor suggested rising earlier, the person answered "no, I can't do that, it'll wake the whole house." Then Pastor suggested going to bed a few minutes later, answer: "no can't do that, I fall asleep while I'm reading." Pastor then asked "When do you have free time?" The response was "in the bathroom". Pastor said "read it there".

Now, is that a message from God directly to me, or what? Our awesome miracle working God spent the time and energy to talk to me, directly!!

And, was the thought I had about it being disrespectful a thought planted by a demon masquerading as an "Angel of Light?"

Let me know what you think.

Orthodox Jews use a special tool shaped like a little tiny hand on the end of a stick to help them follow along while they read scripture so that they do not defile the word of God. I wonder what they would think of reading scripture while pooping? In any event, I geuss as long as you don't feel that it is wrong and distasteful then read away. However, if I were in your shoes I would listen to the voice in my soul over my pastor. He who is enthroned in your soul trumps everybody when decisions like this need to be made. And I'm sure your pastor was just trying to make the point that reading scripture is absolutely vital in the life a Christian. But hey, if that's the only place where you can get some privacy with the Almighty....

Peace, and thanks for the interesting question-

I don't know how to break this to you, but God knows you use the bathroom.

Further, as a Christian, you are indwelled by God the Holy Spirit, so He goes in the bathroom with you. I have to think that you have prayed in the bathroom or thought about verses there or sung hymns and songs of praise while in the bathroom. I don't see that reading the Word is different.

Martin Luther is reported to have had his revelation about faith and works while on the toilet in Wittenburg Germany as a monk. So, God isn't offended by such things as pee-pee do-do ;) . It is greed, selfishness, pride and other such sins that are bad.

I don't see what is so wrong with reading God's word while in the bathroom. It's sure a lot better than other stuff that you can look at while in the bathroom. Is it bad to look at a magazine while in the bathroom? I do not think so.

If we took the view that we should not read the Bible if we are in undesirable locations or settings, then we could really never read the Bible. :) The bathroom is offensive to us, but I do not think it is offensive to God. I read my Bible in the restroom because it is one of the few times I am in total seclusion. I don't see anything wrong with it, because a Bible is nothing more than a tool to get close to God. The only time I would think this would be wrong would be if you intended it to degrade the value of God's Word.

God bless,
Dave

Thanks folks. Do you all think it was a demon trying to mislead me, to get me to not read the Word everyday, that got me thinking it was disrespectful?

I did go from everyday, to often, to occassional to way less than I should.

God is awesome in His love and care for us, is He not? Taking the time and trouble to straighten me out!

Hallelujah!!!  :D :D

Probably not. We can make poor decisions on our own without any help from demons.

I don't know about this demon idea. People can guilt themselves into doing / not doing things based solely on the power of suggestion rather than on scripture and sound reason.

Greetings ,

Dangers of reading the Bible while on the toilet .

1. The Bible might get wet , or worse .

2. Squatting for long periods on the " can " has been linked to hemorrhoidal inflamation .

Dangers of not reading the Bible at all .

1. Spiritual starvation .

2. Increased vulnerability for being misled .

this subject caught my attention. What's wrong with it,God understands us,He made us. He made and created our bodies. When ya gotta go,ya gotta go. If reading in the washroom is your choice, than so be it. It's private and quiet, and having 2 children,I do not get to read only at night while they are sleeping.

I'll be honest and say I've read while brushing my teeth. I didn't see it as respectful, just that I didn't want to stop reading while cleaning my teeth. Maybe you could try that. Do your pooping, then read while cleaning your teeth. Take 20 minutes if you like - your teeth will shine!

When I poop I sing my favourite pop song. How ironic!
