hello, I apologize if this doesn't belong here but I'm new. I just got saved in may it was amazing. So my Christian journey has just begun. I sometimes feel uncomfortable with some parts of the Bible. Is this normal? I know with some things I just misinterpreted it and or didn't fully understand. What do you do when it makes you feel uncomfortable?

Praise the Lord, welcome to the Family, Any !
Well, yes there are many parts of the bible that are hard to understand, even for lifelong Christians.
It takes time like anything else, but would suggest starting off reading in John, then the other three gospels in the New Testament.
Prayer is also important, do you have a church you attend?

Parts of it will make you feel uncomfortable. They're supposed to. Keep on reading it anyway. Ask your priest/pastor questions. Use a good study Bible. Pray.

Along with the previous, make up your mind to trust God even if His Word seems offensive at first glance. Trust that it will eventually make perfect sense, as it unfolds in your life.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says,

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths."

When you hit those troubling passages seek advice as @Kiterius said.
You can always post in an appropriate forum. They have a forum for everything here.
Christian Scriptures, Eschatology, Sabbath/law to name just a few.
And if you post in the wrong forum, don't sweat it, the mods can move it to the correct forum.

I think that's normal if people were honest. C.S. Lewis thought a great deal of the Old Testament was objectionable, for instance. We tend to interpret Scriptures through our own sensibilities which are shaped according to our own culture and its standards.

Thank you ! I can see how it takes time, I have so much to learn and I know it's gonna take awhile. I pray everyday and I also read those gospels, I attend a church too.

Thanks I really should get a study bible. I just got a book about customs back in bible times that looks helpful.

I love that proverb. I do trust that it will make sense. Maybe I'm being impatient and I just gotta enjoy the journey. There are many things I wish I knew the answer to though. Then I'll try to research certain topics and there's different interpretations. It's confusing sometimes but I know the Lord will guide me.

I think one thing worth considering is that the Old Testament's norms are not necessarily a timeless standard. This is plainly obvious because almost all Christians now days condemn slavery as immoral, for instance. So it's safe to say a great deal of the Old Testament cannot be held up as a moral guide without significant recontextualization. That means understanding ancient cultures that wrote the text, and also modern cultures where we apply that text. And that's why we send pastors to seminary for years and most denominations engage in discussions about various contemporary issues, looking to the Bible for guidance, but only after doing the hard scholarly work and deliberation.

I can see why that's so but that's another thing that makes me overwhelmed because there are so many different denominations and then interpretations and then even individual interpretations

Of course you're uncomfortable with parts of the Bible, that's perfectly normal. There might bebissues with what parts, are you familiar with Ephesians by chance?
I only read a little bit of it and I'd have to re-read it. I just finished the gospels and read romans and Corinthians along with random psalms (and then a little of other books randomly though.)

That's great, so what are the parts you are struggling with? I had some issues early, its perfectly natural.

The central message and purpose of the Bible is not hard to find, for instance in John 20:31. But if we decontextualize the Bible from the person of Jesus Christ and elevate the Scriptures importance above him, then we run into big problems and the Bible will be rendered impossible.

Well there were some parts that seemed sexist, but I really have to think about it a lot more because I researched it a lot today. Then the other day (might sound dumb) but I felt really anxious about the thought of eternity and what it would be like. I eventually got over that. Then I was just really pondering and I had a lot of "whys?" But luckily I also reached a conclusion on some. But my point is that these things keep popping up that make me overwhelmed I guess, sometimes it's good and sometimes I just feel uncomfortable about it.
