balding dream

So, I have had some odd dreams here and there past few weeks, and normally only post on the really apocalyptic stuff, but... so, last night, my hairdresser was trimming my hair and remarking on how fine it was. I have super fine hair, finer then anyone I know. Takes me like a month to grow a five oclock shadow...

I remarked, to her I had this dream, she replied, "Don't all dreams mean something", I said, "No, this was just some silly stress dream".

Anyway, a big source of joy for me has been how many times I have survived death and the fact that though I am 41 I still can pass for being a teenager.

So, the dream... I had cut my hair short for some reason, and saw suddenly in a back mirror that I had a huge, looming bald spot on the back of my head. This deeply bothered me.

Ever after that in the dream, I would see my reflection in the mirror and I looked like some kind of monk. I wondered why on earth God would ever curse men with such a horrible thing.

In a bit, I woke up, felt my hair, and thankfully, it was all there.

Hair can represent "thoughts" and for men can point to an aging issue (especially when it is in that location of the head). Did you think about "monks" in your dream, or just mentioned them in your description? Have you had some thoughts about getting older, missing something you used to do, or facing something you haven't had to face so far in life?

I thought about monks in my dream.

"Have you had some thoughts about getting older, missing something you used to do, or facing something you haven't had to face so far in life?"

I don't feel I have really "done anything" yet in my life. I get mixed reports. Some people say I have helped them a lot, but I don't know enough about them to really know what they are talking about. I do have a super positive attitude on things. But, I have always been expecting something much, much bigger in life.

I look freakishly young for my age, and have been noticing this for about seven or so years now. I have met some others who also look this way. Unless someone is pulling a really, really elaborate prank on me, which doesn't make much sense motive wise...

So, that has greatly impacted my perspective.

I was at the store the day before and noticing a lot of older people, and feel really grateful, but also bewildered.

I did spend a lot of years, really, my whole life studying, training,etc... alternating by bouts of excess... but I always do that. But, can't say I regret anything or even consider death or old age a reality.

I have been bugged out by my acne scars recently, though in most light you really can't tell. Also, I have yet another cavity and may lose yet another tooth... and was wondering just how well the new soundbeam stuff to regrow teeth will work.

It sounds like you are "acutely aware" of your age advancing while your looks are not. Going over the 40 mark is a real big thing. You have passed the virtual halfway mark and it makes you think about things you have never thought about before. Mid life crises is not a figment of peoples imagination, it is a very real process that sneaks up on you, and you are usually the last person to notice that you are going through it(when everybody else can see it). Maybe it is time to realize that niether your looks nor your age, defines you at all. But, your helping others, in truth, really does. It is what we reflect back to others that we ourselves have seen and taken part of in Jesus, that defines us. We are spiritual beings...not just aging earthly shells. God's love and light shines through us, so that others will desire Him too. We are His beloved beautiful vessels at any age....

I never did think my looks defined me, actually I was extremely ugly as a kid due to poor parental guidance and acne... and as I did not have any luck with women after that I did not consider myself good looking, until the past few years.

I mean, the face in the mirror seemed good looking, but the societal response was far from that...

But above all, I lived a life of service, so that is the opposite of me.

Now, I am seeing that I am forty, good looking, and think I have my life ahead of me. I always believed I would stay young, though, just a belief I have had since my youth.

I think, if anything, I feel I have done too much service and am sick of it and want some kind of break.

Balding.....

Elijah was teased by the youths for balding. 50 youths representing the feast of Pentecost, (young man stage in 1 John). Elijah represents the old men (full maturity)

I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake. I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father. I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

(1Jn 2:12-14)

And baldness (I think) is referring to no covering accept the Lord. Our head is naked when we have nothing between it and Him, the youths were mocking Elijah because of his relationship with the Lord and they were killed by a bear (another significant feature of the story):

Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.

(1Co 11:4)

Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
(1Co 11:14-15)

The bear is seen in Amos as the day of the Lord:

Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light. As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.
(Amo 5:18-19)

Put this another way, you want to be a mature man (bald) who hears God's voice like Elijah on the day of the Lord and not like those mocking youths who were taken by the bear.

Or it could be the more Freudian fear of getting old and diminishing in your own authority (but I doubt it).

Thanks for the confidence.

In the dream it had an effect of me of suddenly going, "Wait, I was wrong, now I am growing old"... and on waking it had the effect of diminishing all of my other problems and stresses, which currently are substantial.

It also may have been tied into a friend of mine who has been messing with me on this, as she tends to do on any such subject I struggle on.

I am glad your self esteem has been revived.

Maybe that is what the Monk-ish apearance was about. Monks devote all of their time.

service burns many out - maybe not you - because they were working more in the flesh than in the spirit (of what God called them to do). I have gotten caught up in doing "good things" for the Lord and wound up being so frustrated. I am just now learning to LISTEN and only do what He calls me to do (specifically). Jesus tells us to take and learn from HIM that his yoke is easy and HIS burden is light. As I step out and do ONLY what He is telling me to do I see HIM bring fruit forth. I am also learning that it is important to spend quiet time in the Lord's presence and waiting/listening to HIM. Jesus said if we ask our father for a fish would he give a scorpion or if we asked him for a piece of bread would he give us a stone. How much more our Heavenly Father seeks to give us good things (wisdom, knowledge and understanding - best of all HIS LOVE).

I really have no doubt on what to do or not to do, and do not live like I am trying to pay Jesus or God back. I find such things absolutely foolish.

The Kingdom of God is about power and immortality.

People get wrapped up in everything that they can be wrapped up into to deny the power inherent in godliness. Be it their worship of "science" or their screaming, "Jesus, Jesus, I love you, world, see how Christian I am"... and yet denying every single point of obedience of the word Jesus spoke.

They seem to worship the church of the Inquisition and the Anti-Christ, to me.

But what does it matter? They have forsaken not just power, but also immortality?

How foolish is that?

I mean boasts of how everyone else will burn in Hell forever unless they serve their vast adultery, or how they know the secrets of the rapture... really fall flat on the face of "just words" when they see that they themselves are left out of the kingdom... and aging and dying... while the saved are not.

But then, they embraced a religion of condemnation, blasphemy, and money... and so the price there they willingly - gladly - paid and pay is but a short life, and a temporary soul...

Yeah, good point on the incorruptible.

Though, I have to get my teeth fixed and have a busted foot. :)

I can't shapeshift to change that stuff like some can.

Excess... I think it is an angel/devil thing going on. That is what my wife says, too. I am normally very meek and pure, but find that I have to turn to devil's advocate view to learn anything or have stuff proven to me... or to prove stuff or teach anything.

Also, I find that excess is important and devil's advocate view for protection, by disguise. If you do not blend in, you do not have rapport.

Though I often wonder if that is not just a lie I tell myself and the reality is I am simply human.

That is alot of cynical judgment.....

Lol, not really. I believe in universal salvation. I think the big problem with salvation by faith is ... well, connected with how there is no boasting because we are saved by faith... so how can there be condemnation?

There is the condemnation of... not being told?

I am not quite sure of what "kind" of condemnation you are thinking about.

Could you tell me what your concept of universal salvation is? I don't want to assume anything.

Faith in God... is a gift from God, it isn't works based. We can take no credit for our faith, we can only choose to exercise the faith we were portioned out to have. So, I am not sure what or who you think is condeming whom. I am interested in your thoughts.

Yes, you are aging too in the physical sense, and yes you have an eternal existence following your earthly death if you have faith in him...meaning what and how He chooses to do things. Believing He exists isn't enough...we have to get to know His personality and trust that His plan is best for all living creatures.....and all creatures who have passed too. I am astounded at how many scriptures say that He wants ALL to be saved. Look it up, and you too will see. I also believe that He will get what He wants in the end. I know in my spirit that His plans are perfect...because He is the Creator...who are we to complain about how we percieve it is all working out for everyone. He is so much wiser and sees so much more than we can even understand, even if He sat down and told us all about them. Even the desciples couldn't understand the Lord's simplest and plain forth right statements. There is so much we don't know.

I do personally understand your sadness of watching the people around us not accepting His offer of joy and inner peace while on earth, and eternal life with Him after it, but this is the business and the work of the Creator. Are we to shake our fists at Him because He is not doing it the way we would... or because He is working in an under current that we can't see? He is merciful, gentle, loving, and gracious...and we have to keep that knowledge in front of us at all times. He has made all that exists, and He can do as He wishes with it. I know that in the light of His personality, He will also end it all in a beautiful crescendo of all creation that we could not even imagine. He is helping those around the world right now, that we are concerned about, and doing so much more than we can see or know or even think to ask.

It isn't a good place to stand and shout out the seeming unfairness of it all like Job did. It is a dangerous prideful precipice to be on. This place is God's place to stand and a good place for us to kneel and pray for that which we are worried about. Pray, my friend, pray with the passion that you do have for any that comes to your mind. Do His work and do not complain, for He sees all that you do, knows your heart, and shares your concerns. His compassion is far greater than yours, and He loves with greater love.
