Have any of you heard of the "Axehead Principle", based on 2 Kings 6:1-7??

It is used to describe when you are not hearing from God, or things have dried up spiritually in your life.. and the instruction is: Go back to the last thing God told you to do and do it!

Can you see how that is premise is derived from this scripture re: the floating axehead??

... And Elisha the man of God asked, "Where did it fall in?", and the man showed him the place. Then Elisha cut down a stick, and threw it there, and the iron axe head rose to the surface . (2 Kings 6:6)

I've never heard it called the "Axehead Principle," but I've heard the directive to go back to the last thing God told you to do.

Has the Lord revealed something about it to you lately?

No... but like you I have heard of going back to the last thing God told you to do... just never being called the Axehead Principle... and I am having a hard time seeing the correlation  How does throwing a stick in the water making an axehead float miracle have anything to do with going back to the last thing God told you to do???

All I can think is that "taking an axe to the root of the problem" can solve it..... and doing the last thing God told you to do is the "root" ??? Fishing here....:help:

I guess I kinda assumed the principle is for how to get back on track when your life has derailed or you are not making progress any longer.

In 2 Kings 6, they were making progress on their task when the axe head fell off into the water and they had to stop. But Elisha told them to go back to where the axe head fell into the water (the place you got out of God's will), they obeyed Elisha (do what the Lord told you), and then resumed their original task (get back on the Lord's path for you.

Does that make sense, or am I all wet? ^_^ :sorry:

I've never heard this called Axehead Principle either, but I have heard this scripture used over and over and over regarding the teaching you described. (Side note: the teaching of going back to where you derailed is fine, but not necessarily to be based on this scripture, IMO.) I don't see the correlation either. I see that it was a miraculous provision of God more than anything else. They lost something precious that was borrowed and the Lord provided the means of getting it back. I don't understand how some people make whole new semi-doctrines off of such a passage, myself.

I've usually heard this verse connected with borrowing things.

I'm going to make an assumption that they had not finished with the axe and needed to finish the job. So they had to go back and do the last thing God told them to do.

I read back what I just wrote and it sounds like I'm reaching/stretching, but I'll post it anyway.
