I'm dying of curiosity.... ?ROFL! Suspenders over this side of the pond mean something entirely different!
As far as fashion, and the American version of suspenders, I'd say it depends on their color, their style, and what else they're being worn with.

I'm not sure what they might be called in the US (and I daren't post a picture!)...
We call stockings "pantyhose" (tights) which come just to mid thigh level. The belt which holds them up is called a suspender belt.
"Most" men are believed to find suspenders extremely sexy indeed...

If we're talking about Urkel suspenders, then no.
If we're talking about wearing suspenders with the right suit or tuxedo, then I think that the right combination of the two can make you look like the BOSS.

It was my understanding that stockings and pantyhose are two different things.

Yeah, I do wear braces when I wear a suit and some other times.
I don't know how old you are, but back in the 80's, it was big for boys to wear braces with their dungarees. If you've ever seen "Back to the Future", you know what I mean.
Braces can look really good or really stupid.
I'll admit that I did it, but I kind of regret the braces/dungarees thing now.
Mostly, I'll wear a belt just because it's more practical.

Over here they are different, but similar...tights (pantyhose) have two legs attached with a "panty" part, stockings are two seperate legs, no "panty" bit, and require suspenders to hold them up... generally considered very sexy...not at all like braces, which go over men's shoulders to hold their trousers up...

I know that, as a man, I'm supposed to find garter belts sexy but, in all honesty, I don't. It just seems like a lot of unnecessary hardware.
I know women say that they wear sexy underthings for themselves and not for men but, honestly, putting on your clothes should not take that much effort.

LOL! I agree - I used to wear said underwear arrangement as a young woman, and they're hopelessly uncomfortable...but then I hate wearing tights as well. And my hubby is not in the least interested in such things either...It's just the usual stereotype...

My wife does too. When I wore them with jeans she made fun of me but when I wore them to work with my dress clothes her attitude change a bit.
