Are some brands (like Hollister, Abrecrombie, PINK) not okay for Christians to wear?

Hello! I'm a teenager, and we all know how clothes are a huge thing in school. At my school, Hollister is a big trend. Some of their clothes are questionable, but it's possible to find acceptable, even modest clothes there. I was wondering what everyone thought of Christians dressing in Hollister or Abrecrombie clothes? They kind of do advertise their clothes in suggestive ways, and in their stories there are huge pictures of girls in bikinis kissing guys with abs in swim trunks and stuff.

Another, somewhat larger, issue is Victoria's Secret and PINK (owned by VS). Is it bad for a Christian to wear clothes from Victoria's Secret or PINK? I don't go to Youth Group during the school year (I wouldn't get home until 10 PM!), but my best friend, who went once in a while, said that our small group leader said you shouldn't wear those brands because of how they advertise their clothes. I can see that, but I was just wondering what you all thought.

Thanks to everyone!

I think suggestive clothing should not be worn, that is assuming its actually suggestive. Such as if you wore a very tiny top and had your chest kinda hanging out. Especially as a teen when everyone bodies are changing and starting to feel urges they need to stay away from lol. Now if your at home, well thats your own buisness.

As for Victoria Secret do they actually sell anything that isn't related to under garments? Because I am pretty sure wearing under garments out is a beyond suggestive thing. lol. Now personally, if my fiance (well when we are married) wore victoria secret around the house I wouldn't mind because we would be married and at home. outside of the house I wouldn't want her looking suggestive. More so because if your with someone theres no reason to make yourself look "hot" to others, its ok to look nice obviously. Just as long as your intent is not trying to make men look.... although men look usually no matter what a woman is wearing.

Obviously there are exceptions like if your going to a dance and my fiance wore a beautiful dress with lets say a long open slit on the back and a bit of clevelage. Although I'd still probably feel weird seeing guys lusting for her. >.>

There is a big belief when it comes to advertising, that as christians we shouldn't support advertisers who go against christian morals. Such as the popular store Hot Topic, sure it has some neat stuff but really as christians we should not buy things from there. I don't think its a sin if you do, but it still sends the wrong message to others.

Now again there are exceptions. Like Victoria Secret. Its not advertising to wear the stuff outside your house (well at least the under garments), so its ok to shop there I think. Because what a woman wears for her husband is a private matter.

You could also break this topic into "What kind of swimwear is acceptable?". I don't often see christian women ina two piece. Usually they wear a one piece or even a one piece with a cover over the bottom.

In the end everyone can do what they though. You could drive yourself nuts with what to wear and what not to wear. I tend to play it safe and think "Wold Christ approve of me wearing this?". Example I had a cool skull necklace. But after awhile I felt it wasn't sending a good message so I got rid of it. And non the less I bought it Hot Topic. Which I do not shop at anymore.

Wear what you find comfortable, honestly. As long as you're not wearing it "to get laid" or whatever.

Also: Their clothes are overpriced! You can find half of their clothes at WalMart for like $5 and would last longer.

It's the ethical question of whether you should support a company that uses suggestive advertising. This is why so many boycotts have arisen. I think this is a personal choice each person has to make, depending on how bad the company's behavior is and how necessary their product is.

If you decide to boycott, signing a petition or sending a letter will tell them why, and put a fine point on what you're doing. Boycotting may be an opportunity to witness to your friends that you have standards and are concerned about what the mass culture is doing to you and your friends, and ultimately, that you have a relationship with Christ.

We are not under the law, so it is up to you. I would suggest you study what's involved, and then pray about it. Then follow the course that makes the most sense and gives you the most peace.
