Ok, I posted in another thread that I have just recently joined the church, got baptized and all that wonderful stuff. However, I feel this huge desire to start 'something' I think ministry is the correct word.

The only problem is I can't come up with any ideas.....I just want to go out and help and start "something" to help the community grow.

I thought of taking bibles to the prisons, or something like that...I just can come up with any other ideas.

I guess what I am looking for is any ideas on ministries that I would be capable of doing as such an early stage. Whether it be a food drive, or what have you. I did see one thing where some churches take up items for newborns to help low income families.:groupray:

My goal: To help someone! To help several people- to be able to help while at the same time working for God,

My obsticales: Need some ideas and themes that would greatly help a small town...I mean really small. Not even a red light small....

Another obsticale...which I would really call an obstical is that I go to a very small church with only 11 members. Thats not a problem really cause I know that it will be the HELP OF GOD that will help our ministry be successful!

I have prayed :crossrc:about this and it's still tugging at my heart...I can't say that I have physically heard God speak to me as I am very new to being this in depth with my faith. However, I do feel that tugging at my heart that tells me I really really should do it! Atleast try!

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

'Not by power, nor by might, but by my Spirit'.

Abraham did not have a scribe following him around recording his deeds. Nor was it so with Lot, nor Noah, nor Enoch, and so on. Rather, they lived their lives in ever growing faith, and God later told Moses about them. From that the world has been greatly blessed. Likewise, we are to focus on ourselves first with our relationship with God, then God will bring to us what He wishes for us to do.

'No one lights a lamp and hides it away, but they put it up so the room might be lit. Shine your lights before men so they might praise God.' If your lamp is lit by God - if it has been fashioned and is all ready - then God will give you your place to shine.

Your town is small as is your church: yet here you are online talking to people from all over the world.

Since you're new, I recommend getting involved with your church and signing up for service opportunities. You should really get trained in the faith and get some experience under your belt before you lead anything. Recent converts are not to be given positions of leadership.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I would never imagine going out to minister people as far as 'preaching' persay. However, I don't see how starting something to help serve the community would be bad.

As for joining a service in our church. We don't currently have anything like that. One of my reasons for wanting to start something to help others. We only have 11 members and therefor I believe that I why they haven't started something already. Now don't get me wrong my church does help the community quite often as far as donating money to help people in the area that are in need but as for as having a specific ministry for....delivering bibles, visiting the elderly or something of that nature, nothing exists.

And I wouldn't really consider myself a convert....I have always been Christian! I just haven't walked the strait and narrow path that I know now I should!

I agree with the other poster, as well, though I already replied to you on that in another thread.

We don't have to "do" anything. You are online and have access to hundreds of millions of people all across the globe.

There are plenty of Christians to fellowship with outside of your small, rural town.

If you must only do something which does not involve actually talking to people about Christ (you don't need much of anything to evangelize, teaching other Christians is something else entirely)... then there are surely poor in your hometown.

Surely there are elderly who are very lonely who could use visitors. Widows.

You could also work on the houses of the poor.

Feeding the poor is a very helpful thing, though I doubt your town has any kind of soup kitchen.

Frankly, as a new Christian, however there is so much one must and can do which is private, in seeking God.

But, I have no problem with you starting to evangelize online. Jesus sent out the seventy without a great amount of training. You do have the Holy Spirit.

Just don't evangelize to other Christians, because then you get into teaching and it is far too easy to assume one knows more then they do.

(And very easy to be unmerciful in judgments of them.)

... I noticed, however, you didn't go back to that thread, and you also ignored my suggestion about consider doing something online...

I should note: you should answer what people say as you can. I understand the tugging of the heart, and think it is real. But, if you do not answer or come back with more information, how can anyone help you?

Freeport,

I was not ignoring you...I appreciate your suggestions. Some I don't understand or don't totally agree with. Either, way I do appreciate your responses!

I didn't realize you had asked any questions or I would have responded! Again thanks!

That is what concerns me. What is it you have in mind that you do not wish to ask questions?

If you do not understand something someone is saying, why not ask questions? Or, if you disagree, why not state why you disagree? I am not in your situation. You could have some very reasonable reason to disagree and I very well might agree with you.

In my church, I wasn't even baptized before I was asked to run our youth group. 4 of the (about) 12 members gave their lives to Christ and were baptized this year. don't be discouraged. A 'ministry' is as simple as telling someone about your beliefs, sharing a kind word and prayer, or buying a meal for the guy on the corner asking for change. Ask your minister/pastor what needs to be done, and what he/she would reccomend. Don't give up, don't be discouraged, and remember that as long as you've got God on your side, and you're serving His will, it will be looked upon favourably. God bless your dedication.

No one has always been a Christian. Yes you can grow up in around the church and be part of the religion of Christianity but people aren't born Christians they are reborn as Christians

As for ministry..
If you know the gospel of Christ (which you should or you couldn't be a Christian) then you are to prayerfully & while submitted to God, spread the gospel. Tell others the Good News of what Jesus has done!

Here is the basic gospel in a quick couple of verses
"Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and He was buried, and He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures." (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
