I love Godsmack- own all their albums, actually. But yeah, I'm not really crazy about their name. Great music, though.

i remember reading somewhere that the name godsmack is not a religous/blasphemous name. it has nothing to do with God, but rather something political... if only i could find it! if i find it, i will let you know.

They took their name from an Alice In Chains song called Godsmack. If you like Godsmack, I highly reccomend you go out and pickup Dirt by Alice In Chains. Godsmack are ripoffs.

The name of Godsmack occured over two nights. night one, member A called out member B for having a big cold sore. That night member A made a friend with a girl of ill repute, and woke up the next morning with a big honking cold sore himself. Member C called out member A and said "There ya go. Thats a God smack." Hence the name.

The name occured when Member A, Member B, Member C, and Member D said "Hey, Alice In Chains rock! Let's copy them!" "Good idea, Member A, hey shh I like this song." "What's it called?" "Godsmack!" "Whoa, that would be a rawkin' name for a band. Too bad we didn't come up with it!" "Yeah..." "Yeah..." "Hey maybe we could pretend we came up with it..." "Well we did kind of come up with it" "Yeah, yeah, we did!" "Yeah, RAWK~!"

I heard that same story. Although, i thought my friend just made it up when my mom (conservative christian woman, bless her soul) asked why the band chose that name. *shrug*

Godsmack are about 3 or 4 in my top fav. bands. Theyr just awsome, sure a bit repeditive but all the members are good at what they do. I dought they are christian though.
