So I've been watching a couple of different anime, such as "Akame ga Kill!", "Sword Art Online", and "Death Note". All of these anime have a lot of death involved. Like Akame ga Kill!, is about a group of assassins who are killing off people from the capital (the capital is corrupted) and Sword Art Online is about a virtual world where people who die there, die in real life, and they can't escape unless they finish the game. And Death Note, is about someone who finds a book labeled "Death Note", and if you write someone's name in it, that person dies. I love all of these anime, and I've started to wonder: "Are these sinful?". I've seen another thread discussing a similar topic, and a lot of people are saying it isn't, and that it is. I personally don't think it's sinful, because who would go out and kill tons of people for no reason at all? Or go out and kill anyone at all? Same goes for video games. It all depends on the person, imo. I want to hear what you guys think too!

I agree, I believe it has to do with how you view it. Obviously a lot of us watch these shows cause of the plot and the characters. It just depends on you as a person. Though there will be anime where the focus is so much on the fan service that kills everything else for me. Of course, it is there to please the audience but for me I guess that where i draw the line on how comfortable I feel watching certain types of anime.

That is a very good question, i think. I came across an anime called- The 7 deadly sins. I jumped right on it but, soon afterwards i was a little disappointed because like alot of anime it has alot of crude humor. I was distraught over the amount obscenity it contained, so im still wandering if i should finish it because it looks like a good anime.

I want to give my opinion. I don't want to discuss about sin or not sin, because if we follow God's standard, we know that everything we do without faith, it's a sin (Heb 11:6), that's why Paul teaches us to do whatever we do, do it for the glory of God (I Cor 10:31). If we ask about anything we do, it is sin or not, maybe we will confuse about it. Watch anime, playing games, or another things that is not state in the bible. But, here's my answer: Are you doing it for the glory of God? Or only for yourself? And, you have to remember this, time you spend to watching anime is better for you to study, or doing sport or do another things which can build you up.

1 Co 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.

Hope you understand with it.

Haven't seen SAO or Akame go Kill!, so I can't offer an opinion.

As for Death Note, keep the context in mind. Light legitimately believes he is doing the right thing in killing these people. It's an interesting take on morality, similar to Zankyou No Terror.

That being said, if it bothers you, don't watch it.

Death Note is a fantastic study of society. The way morality is presented is really thought provoking.

@Balhu is right, Light thinks he's doing the right thing. He even has people rallying behind his cause. As he says: "Everyone will say what I'm doing is evil out loud, but they're secretly rooting for me." (paraphrased). That's how he views the world. Then there are the people that oppose him and see what he is doing as evil. He has no right to be judge, jury, and executioner for others. Judge not lest ye be judged.
The back and forth between these two viewpoints is really well done.

At the end of the day, Light is the antagonist. Which is really cool since he's the main character - that's not a common storytelling choice.

I haven't watched the other two so I can't comment on those either. I'll probably watch SAO at some point though

I dont think that watching anime with death or killing in it is sinful, killing unfortunately is a part of life and just because you watch it through media doesn't mean you agree with killing in anyway, you could also take it further and say that people who watched documentaries about murders are also sinning. Personally I love death note and I think the moral questions it presents are amazing, I dont think watching it was a sin, but it actually made me understand the human mind more and the concepts of live and death.

I don't think watching a certain anime or playing a game that deals with death or killing makes you a sinner. I mean one of my favorite video games is Dangan Ronpa and it's all about high school killing, but I'm still a Christian. As long as the anime or game doesn't inspire you to harm others, then I think you're fine.

There is a series i watch called "Food Wars" on Crunchyroll. Well i would call it something else but i just like how overdone it is. But i guess its a problem if it causes you to sin.

Thats the problem with most anime i think. And also girls usually as often either have a skirt or no personality in compared to some other shows. Like "kino's journey" is pretty good just to mention some example, but those types of shows are rare.

The sweet sweet Holy Spirit is in all of us. Pray ask Him. I read and see I have to walk softly. We are human the flesh has not been changed thus we see things that are not of God yet dont seem to be evil like music we have music that glorify s God and other music that has nothing about God and thats not bad right? Its best to stay blind..

Before Jesus came anyone could THINK lust about another. God took it higher and if you simply lust in your heart..mind just THINK it.. you did it. Do you really think doing harm or killing in a game in music TV is not the same? You really believe its ok to watch someone being murdered hurt or play a game where YOU are killing? "Well its just TV its just a Cartoon its just Anime its not real". Anything that has powers like supernatural things like this that are clearly NOT of God that talk about OTHER gods even.. no believer should ever be watching. Sorry but just saying "well I dont think its bad".. praise GOD.. but who thought just a simple bite of a fruit would do ALL that we see.

Camps.. if your watching playing doing something that is not of God, not saved dont know Him..what CAMP do you think they are in? So GOD comes to His own.. that pray that live the Torah. Yet He said.. you are of your father the devil..you being evil know how to give good gifts to your children.. and on and on. There are those in this world that are BLIND..Jesus said..if you were blind you would have no sin..you say you see? Your sin remains.

Saved? DUH YES! But if its NOT of God part of God and GOD does not have any say in it.. why are you doing it? See most do not walk in His perfect will. Its OUR will our way. We listen to watch things talk about things that GOD has no part in. So PRAY about it ..ask HIM..His SO REAL! Its what HE thinks..

I may be a Christian, but sexual themes shouldn't be such a bad thing in my opinion.
I think the objectification of women is wrong. Cartoonists shouldn't portray the female body in a lewd manner. They shouldnt work for Satan either when they portray images that entice people to sin.

I don't think so. The very inclination of being interested in anime may be a result of the attributes that God gave you. Personally, I have had the opportunity to gain fellowship with people at church because of a shared interest in anime/manga.

I've seen new and seemingly shy people show up at our church. They have been welcomed with full conversations of anime/manga, and that prompted them to return in the future. Conversations topics can go a long way.

There are temptations that can result from certain themes of Anime, but if you're careful, I don't think it should be a problem. Just know your limits and your weaknesses.

That's exactly what I think. If your not bent on pursuing stuff that'll cause harm, you're in the clear.

Well sometimes there is so called "fan service" that presents lewdness. I can give you actual examples of what I'm talking about. Female anime characters portrayed in an overtly sexual manner. That's happened in more commonly known anime like Bleach, and One Piece.
In other less well known anime, there's even scenes with sex.
This can trigger responses of sexual immortality in oneself if one is not careful as mentioned. In order to be careful, a person should at least admit that while watching anime you might come across a lewd scene. In that case, either fast forward, or look away for a while if you cant. Or better yet ... don't watch.

I think it's in the best interest of people struggling with lust to avoid anime, and tv in general.

Yeah, I agree with everything you said, except the last suggestion might be a bit extreme. I think people with strong lust struggles can still watch animes like Pokemon no problem. I guess they make those shows G-rated for a reason.

But I can definitely see what you're saying in regards to shows like One Piece or Bleach. These shows may not seem overly sexual, however they do have certain characters/scenes that can cause problems. These scenes can come from nowhere, and may even catch people off guard. Personally, I watch anime for the stories, not the sex. So when something sexual happens, I really am not interested.

Did you mean you're not interested, or that since you're already interested in the story you get carried away with whatever?

Anyways, yeah I guess a person could watch Pokemon. But who the heck would? Haha. That reminds me of the time I lost cable and the only cartoon I could watch was Babar. A little kids show like Dora.

I recommend nature Documentaries, the Food Network, and certain videogames. Maybe no tv is a bit extreme, it's for people who have serious problems though, ike they can't see one provocative ad or they'll relapse or something, not everyone.

Sorry, I meant "not" interested. Good catch.

Hey, Pokemon is awesome haha, at least the first few seasons were. How old were you when you had to watch Babar and Dora? I remember watching Babar as a young kid and not being able to understand the plot at all.

But yeah, documentaries and things of the sort can be beneficial to watch. You learn from them while being amused at the same time. But someone with serious problems can even be affected by the commercials, so I can see them relapsing. Yep. I think this is why lust is a deadly sin; it can be a constant struggle for some people.
