Anne McCaffrey is a dangerous author!

Yes, her books are entertaining, but they play upon the popularity of dragons, and portray dragons in a sympathetic light. People are apt to forget that the Dragon is the symbol or emblem of Satan.

Further, her "dragonriders" are shown to have supernatural powers like telepathy, and to be totally subject to their dragon's base animal (mating) needs. A dragonrider whose dragon undertakes a "mating flight" is shown as completely subservient to the dragon's lusts - in some scenes quite graphically!

Since there are female dragons with male riders, this means that some of her dragonriders regularly engage in unnatural acts with other males, and in her world of Pern, this is okay.

So I believe that McCaffrey goes across the line of what is good and acceptable, and even if she writes well, these books could lead others to believe supernatural powers, sodomy and the dragon symbol are nothing to be afraid of.

Wow. You would hate my bookshelves. Nothing but fantasy, hard-boiled mystery, and really dark fiction.

Now on to the OP...

I have to agree with Maren. I really enjoyed he Crystal Singer books, and the first 3 or 4 Pern books rank as classics, but overall, I find her a bit boring.
